It pains me to come to Trump's defense, but the definition of "elected" in this case at least is elected by the Electoral College, which Trump was not in 2020 (and there's absolutely no evidence he should have been).
Of course, he would be barred from ever serving as president again if the Republicans had had the spine to convict him in his second impeachment. Then they wouldn't have to worry about him and DeSantis tearing each other to pieces in the next primary. Oh well.
