Honestly that is a part of it. For so long we've had conservatives that basically didn't fight back. They made as if they were above it all and generally came across as weak. They talked a good game going into the elections but on those occasions that they won they failed to follow through.
To understand Trump you have to look at him in a different light. Most importantly he's NOT a politician. He makes no pretense as to being one. You have to look at what he's getting done, done in-spite of the obstacles thrown in his way. Look at his record in the courts for example.
His "Tweets." I will admit that a good 33% are cringe worthy. And at times I go, "Oh no." But then I realize he's got the press going bat shit crazy like cats chasing a laser pointer. Looked at in that perspective it's hilarious. And of course the dems follow the press slavishly. And that's the other point, the dems are following, not leading.
One last point. Trump understands, either philosophically or intuitively, that you can't lead the free world by going around kissing everyone else's ass. And that's what all of our politicians, republican and democrat, have been doing for the last 40 years.

I think most people who support Trump do so because they are more opposed to disasters such as The Bernout and Fauxcahontas and some others.

Much like Obama I don't back Trump, I back particular policies and actions... and condemn others.
That being said the fact that he can fart and in doing so send the reactionary and progressive/socialist left into fits of rage, delusional paranoia, acting like they live in Nazi Germany?? Is the best thing about him right next to not licking European ass every chance he gets.
Those 2 things are very appealing and combined with the fact that (D)'s very clearly no longer want my vote or money because I was born with the incorrect genitals and skin color, I'll be almost certainly voting for a republican for the first time ever in 2020.

Honestly, I am not a Trump supporter. I lived in NYC last century and knew people like him. They were good for a party, yeah, but also crude bores often with no scruples and certainly not the ideal president.
The thing is that our culture is almost totally owned the left. Let's count the institutions: Our universities, our research institutions, the NGOs, the civil service, Hollywood, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, teacher unions, all of media outside of Fox news and the right wing blogosphere.
What this has done is make us all stupid because of lack of competition in the marketplace of ideas. It's all one sided today.
Think of our culture as an ecosystem. Dominance by a single ideology reduces ideo-diversity to the point we become a daft mono-crop unable to evolve and adapt to change. Societal stagnation is an existential threat.

I'm from the left, socially and liberally. But the Left left itself. The left is increasingly totalitarian and anti-free thought, much less free speech. That wasn't the leftist agenda when I was a kid. It was about freedom to the people and anarchy. Fuck The Man. Now The Man is the left.
Today, the Left fears the people. It fears democracy. From Trump to Brexit to the peasant revolts in France, Italy, Hungary and Hong Kong. The left has changed sides to the big end of town. The left are now the "conservatives" who want to consolidate power in the hands of a small elite allied with a technocratic class of experts.
Trump is a pig, but he is the people's pig. Totally irony. I get it.
Don't worry. He won't last long. His revolt will ultimately fail. Order will be restored and the globalists will win the day. They always do in the end.

While I voted for him once and likely will again, I wish he were a bit more concilliatory towards his rivals. Not ass kissinly so, but enough to maybe work together. We need to lose some of the venom in politics regardless of who gets elected. Dump the twitter account while your at it.

I was definitely not a fan and would have been in the anybody but Hillary Club but I didn't see the point in making a 500-mile round trip to vote for what I assumed would be a New York liberal. At best a Rockefeller Republican but more likely to the left of Hillary Clinton.
I was more delighted that Hillary lost then that Trump won. In the early stages seeing how triggered the snowflakes were and still are I have to admit that I was quite delighted that he had that effect on them. I at the time in accurately predicted that at some point they would have to realize that they actually got what they wanted a New York liberal.. Hillary have been gifted a New York liberal Senate seat just as payment for not walking away from Bill Clinton and helping him get a second term.
I've been pleasantly surprised with Trump on taxes appointment of judges and deregulation.

Here's what I'm confused about:
He certainly caters to the ultra-rich: he got their taxes reduced unevenly not because of business sense, but to pay his debts. And he increased America's debt.
Yet unemployment IS lower under him, and several businesses are doing well.
Is that just a temporary bubble till the next recession or is he actually a good businessman?

I understand the thinking, if a candidate is like Satan to you then of course you'll vote for the one who's almost Satan but not quite. Add in the ignorant who think he must be good because he's rich and was on tv plus the demographic that thinks covering everything in gold isn't at all tacky and you get Trump as president.

As an outsider, I see the Left politicians' hysteria about Trump's racism as distracting from the truly important things.
He's a tad racist but I haven't seen measures that attack Black & Latino citizens. Even those pictures of kids at the border were from Obama's years.
Why do Leftist politicians focus inordinately on the "racism, nazi, evil Whiteys" stuff to the detriment of measures that affect the working class of all ethnicities?
I suspect that it's because they, too (not just the R) cater to the 0.001%.
America, to me now seems like an oligarchy with a two-headded corrupt political system, and it's sad to watch.
