my true story

Date Night is based on a true story. The only false element is the fact that the characters are married and have children. That part was included to knock out "Loving Wives" for the survivor contest, but it ended up in "Erotic Couplings" anyway. The way that James proposed is true though. I also changed the names, just for fun really...

Ignoring the philosophical question of what is or is not "true", I do wonder how you can tell what is a "true" story, as opposed to a fictitious one?

If I write of an event as it was reported to me by one of the participants, and change the names and the location to protect their anonymity, that is "true" in the sense that I am reporting what I was told happened (but we all know about fishermen's tales) ... and this is also a second-hand one-sided view.

True story

My story "Claire: Prologue" is essentially true. I haven't gotten to "Claire: The Main Event" yet, but I probably will someday.

Well, it's true... Apart from taking someone at their word it's hard to know if a story is a true story or not. I suppose that partially depends on if the reader is cynical or wanting to believe. ;)

Even if an author actually is lying, I think many readers are hopeful for true stories. To them, it may seem "hotter". Ya know?

There is a big difference between "True" and "as remembered." I doubt I could write a "True" story in the real sense.

Since you ask, yes, I had heard that some were based on true life.
Examples are:
"Richard II", "Henry IV, Part 1", "Henry IV, Part 2", and "Henry V".
"Henry VI, Part 1", "King Henry VI, Part II", and "King Henry VI, Part III".
"King John", "Richard II", "Richard III", and possibly "Henry VIII".

Eat Your Fill was written from a real life experience. I may write up more.

...and what a hot story is is, Eve. My stories are inspired by true life people and events, but greatly embellished.

I don't think I have anything based on reality other than the characters perhaps.

Almost always my heros and heroines end up being drawn from someone I know or someone I've seen.

My Story "My Scholarship" is based on real events in my life. I can't say it's perfectly true because some elements I changed to either make the story flow a little better, or because I didn't want to talk about certain aspects of it. Still debating whether to write more snippets of my experiences.
