True Detective: Season Two

Holy Snapple! The scene at the end with her leaving the Casino is not more than 5 minutes from my house and I didn't even know they filmed here.

I enjoyed it, looking forward to the rest.

So far it is nowhere near as good as season one but that's to be expected because season one was outstanding.
I wasn't as entralled by the first episode as I had hoped to be but it wasn't bad.
The problem with these shows that use a whole season to tell one case is that the viewer has to be willing to let them take their time and sometimes that can be difficult but is usually worth the wait.

More of a prelude then a episode I would say, so I will withhold judgement. It could still be great but I don't see any of these characters capturing the same chemistry that Woody and Matt had...

I'm not sold hook, line, and sinker as I was after the first episode of season 1 and that story. I will however say that it looks promising and I am going to continue to see where it goes.

What I did notice last night was that all of the trailers and teasers we've seen over the last few months have all come from this one episode. Everything else from here on out is virgin territory. Marco Polo, motherfuckers!

I actually really liked it. Its all about character development for me and that is what gets me sucked in for the long haul. If you don't give a damn about the characters then its over before it starts. This season has the loose cannon, the sleazy rich guy, a tweaked out cop or two, tons of drinking and drugs, can't wait honestly.

I think a certain amount of disappointment is unavoidable. But I look at it as if it was a brand new series, with no reference to season one, and from that perspective, it looks like a damn good start.

With the growing popularity of binge watching, I suspect we will see much more full season=one story programming.

I think prelude is a good description of the first episode. It's hard not to expect a lot to happen in each episode because that's what we've been conditioned to expect from tv but this show and a few others are going for the slow burn and that's fine by me. I may not totally enjoy every episode (I didn't even with the first season of True Detective) but as a whole it is usually worth the investment.

I agree. Binge watching has forced writers and studios to re-think how they do things and that's usually good.

Holy fuck.
That's a gun fight.

Everyone is so tragically flawed.

There was a moment with Ray and Frank in the bar,
no one speaking, when they looked over at the girl guitarist,
and it had that smooth, crafted feel of season one.

It's not there yet, but I think it will be.
