I get the feeling sometimes that when somebody asks a question, they don't really want an answer, they want sympathy for their plight. (Think about the scene in White Men Can't Jump)

So when I actually come up with a lengthy, serious reply, the thread instantly dies because I was the uberdork who posted a dissertation on why the chicken crossed the road.
