I just returned from a European business trip and relocated to Texas for work purposes; and I have to say, as far as the Dom\sub scene, it's not very active.

In Italy (Trieste, Venicia) it's very open and quite popular in a lot of areas, just as France (Bourg-en-Bresse) I found quite a lot of activity and fun to be had. Germany (of course) and Holland were very active as well. But now that I'm back in the US. I feel as if I'm standing still. Austin, TX is lovely and the people are very nice, don't get me wrong, but it pales in comparison to a lot of places. Even in Hawaii (Oahu) I found quite a lot of interesting parties and companions.

Does anyone else have any observations on the topic?

Austin rope symposium.

And go have some barbeque, take in some free tunes on Congress and bask in what you *do* got! :)

Austin Rope Symposium... Thank you. I'll make sure I look into it. As for the rest, I'll make sure I enjoy myself to the fullest ( I usually do)

Nightjak, would you mind giving me some info on the scene in Venice? My boy lives there, (well, at Mestre) and I'm going out there again at the weekend.

Venice has a wonderful club called Notche De Marco, ( I believe I spelled that correctly). Great scene for D\s, BDSM, and etc... The people are pretty open with their relationships, preferences and quite a few midnight tryst go on around the city. Knowing the language is a plus, but not a necessity.

On a seperate note: The people or shorter than I thought. I happen to be 6'9", bald, black man; I felt like Gulliver in the land of Liliput. Everywhere I went, I was mistaken for a basketball player (imagine that.... I get that a lot).

When I went to the club that night dress in black attire, black leather full length trench with a matching whip, I had no problem attracting quite a few subs. A lot of fun was had that night and the next.

Arg, I meant the Austin RopeCRAFT symposium. You may find your searching less impeded by my getting the name of the thing right this time.

Austin is a great place, and I have a feeling that even if rope isn't necessarily your thing, this is an event that will pull the players out of wherever they are in Austin and give you a chance to get plugged into the parties and events. I've found that larger events have functioned that way for me in the past.

But I am a rope dork, so I get excited about that particular one. Almost made it out this year. Austin is one of my favorite places I've traveled - if I didn't melt higher than room temperature I'd have considered a move at one point.

No need for the correction, I found it, but that event is over and gone. I am finding a few interesting people to speak with and getting some leads to some hot parties. Being a professional, I have to try and be discreet with my inquiries

Austin, TX is loaded with kink. All over the freaking place. At one point when I was frequently travelling to Austin a few years ago, I was aware of, and had contacts in, no fewer than FOURTEEN BDSM/Leather/Alternative lifestyle groups. Some of those groups are no longer active (Central Texas Couples, Dyke Uniform Corps appear to be gone now) but many are still around, and there are new ones to boot! Here are links to a few:

side note to Moderators: The emails listed above are publicly listed contacts for the associated groups, as posted on SceneUSA, caryl's BDSM & Fetish Page, and other groups listing sites. They are not "personal" e-mails and should not be a violation of TOS. If they are, I apologize and understand if you edit them out.

If that isn't enough to keep you up to your eyeballs in kink in Austin, head down to the Alamo Drafthouse and catch the fun there, or hit some of the bars on 6th or Red River... *grin* Or cruise down I-35 to San Antonio, or up I-35 to Waco or DFW. Central Texas is a Mecca of kink!

Holy Cow! Do you live there or is your google hand quick?! :D
I have never lived in Austin, but I was in a relationship for 4 years with a gal who did, and I was pretty active in the Austin scene.

Most of those links came from 1) Personally bookmarked sites,
2) SceneUSA - http://www.darkheart.com/sceneusa.html,
3) Caryl's BDSM & Fetish Page - http://www.drkdesyre.com/, or
4) The BDSM Events Page - http://www.thebdsmeventspage.com/ which has links to both organizations AND events.

EG. Many thanks. Being new to this area, I did not have many contacts this side of the board. This will certainly help me in slipping back into the D\s scene here.

Thank you so much! We'll look out for this place at the weekend- is it actually on the island? Because the only club I've been to on the island, Piccolo Mondo claims to be the only one on the island. Hummm, appologies, that sentance was syntaxically revolting.
The language isn't a problem, we both speak italian, which is pretty useful. This club, was it pronounced nochay? or nokay? because the italians are funny with their spelling, if it's pronounced the former way, it's spelt noce, if it's pronouned the latter way it's spelt noche.
