I'm surprised at how quickly we accepted transgenderism as a "thing". How do you qualify it? Are there genetic markers? There probably are. Mother nature is a mad scientist. I think some of it could be a mental illness. Bruce Jenner is definitely a mental case. As for dismissing gender fluidity for the pervs, the fact is, we don't know yet. There are always unintended consequences. At the very least, you can't deny that you would have no basis for prosecuting the pervs under the law. Unless of course you had to document the trannies, which I don't see happening. It's too weird for me.

Humans possess plenty of traits we rarely or never use. Homicide comes to mind. As a rule people avoid homicide until its necessary. But its unleashed in war. I killed in Vietnam but haven't used my killer skill set since then.

With many traits we make their expression a serious pain in the ass to execute. Smoking comes to mind. Ethnocentrism is presently punished severely by society tho it endures because humans naturally form strong social bonds with their own kind and persecute non-tribe others. Plus many traits, transsexual comes to mind, are too socially unstable. Humans prefer mates rather than sterile sexual partners. The transsexual offers little beyond sexual release. Theyre wasted effort. And wasted effort is God's thumb on the evolution scale.

I come from the socio-biology school of thought. Socio-biology was organized by E.O.Wilson and Richard Dawkins back around 1970. The aim of life is to get your genes into the next generation....period. Evolution by natural selection supports this thesis, because organisms mutate and adapt, to increase their odds for making viable babies. Whatever decreases the odds is pathological.

I bring up a point that this happens all of the time with groups that are discriminated against, and this is the question you have? The granddaddy of the APA was a national association of alienists, the name psychiatrists went by back about 1900. Alienists (psychiatrists) were the largest crew of racists the world ever knew. Their racist journals are on line. So you kinda keep their history of bull shit in mind.

Just digressing a bit:

They did a good thing initially (I'm referring to the DSM). They tightened things up a bit and made them more objective by introducing those black and white DSM criteria.
Because psychiatry was starting to look like the Wild West of narcissistic psychoanalysts who were more interested in exerting their power over patients and intruding into and jacking off to people's inner life, instead of really helping them.

But things have now turned to the other extreme: things are now ruled by people with OC personalities who are more interested in statistics and collecting data and things. But people don't work like that; they're not things to quantify or put in a box and label.

So do I think that the DSM is a good or a bad thing? Definitely a good thing.
But it should be viewed as an excellent adjunctive tool, and not as The Bible.
