Tragedy or Comedy?

If you want to see comedy turned into tragedy, rent "Manhattan." . . .

My two favourite Woody Allen movies are "Manhatten" and "A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy." The vicissitudes of Mr. Allen's private life has not affected my opinion.

The reason for my appreciation of these two dissimilar titles, is due to the talent of their Production Designer, Mel Bourne.

Mr. Bourne contributed to many films before his death in 2003, but in no other film was his efforts – indeed the efforts of any Production Designer – so clearly visible.


As for Life, it is both a comedy and a tragedy.

What any person sees Life to be, depends upon their sense of proportion.
