Totally non-scientific poll: Your computer

I'm having a disagreement with my client who runs a tech/gadget site. He thinks that the only thing people use, and therefore the only thing they should write about, are fancy iPads and ultrathin notebooks. I say he's wrong, and people have way more varied devices.

So I thought I'd ask you pervs. Because why not.

Tick the poll, or I'll pity bump this til I'm satisfied or bored. Probably the latter.

It is an oldie but a goodie at the house where I play on Lit. I have a badass computer at work where I need speed and power. The ultra thin laptop is ready when I need something portable but I do not take it with me to Starbucks or use it in the shower.

Your client is operating on old data. IDC, which is a company that tracks PC shipments, found the decline in shipments has become much less dire than tech watchers predicted a few years ago. Fewer are still being shipped than in years past, but plenty of people are still buying PCs. That is the data your client should look at.

There are a dozen other companies that track pc v mobile use, just go look at the research. Most of what was predicted in 2011 has not come true.

The news isn't completely rosy for pc use, though. Plenty of companies that trek mobile useage are finding that mobile users spend more time browsing than pc users. So while people are still using pcs, mobile users are spending twice as much time browsing online, which means everyone wants to market to them right now.

Nothing really fit for me either. I am using my iPhone at this moment because I am still curled up in bed and too comfortable to save myself the eye strain by going to go get my laptop. Both are new within the past 3 years, so I don't see them as being old and junky yet, but my needs are minimal these days.

I still like having a regular keyboard at my desk so I buy the walmart $399 laptops when mine die off. This one has been with me since Windows Vista was current.

If he uses Google Analytics on his site, looking at the OS and browser version data can give him some ideas of what hardware his visitors use. His clientele might well be more "high spec" than the average web surfer, if his site is gadget oriented.

It depends on my mood.

I switch between my macbook, win 8.1 laptop, 2 win 7 desktops, samsung tab, iPad, and win 8 phone. And if I forget any of those, I can grab a minions phone and use that to do what I need to do.

But then again, I am not a "normal" user.
