scary. makes me think my ancestors were very smart to settle at a place that has no tornados, no earth quakes, no poisonous animals, etc.
On the first night of my first ever visit to the US, I was sleeping on the floor of my brother's apartment in San Francisco, when a mag 6 earthquake occured. It was so cool, furniture moving across the floor. Another one happened a few days later while we were driving on the Golden Gate bridge.

All you get in England is a spot of drizzle, what

Tornadoes suck....

Yeah, been in three. They are something awesome to behold, though. Magnificence from a distance.

They confirm, as hurricaines do and all natures violence - how small and humble we are in the greater scheme of things.

Good God! I can't leave you guys alone for a minute. I go out for the day, come back and Danielle is in the root cellar! At least I hope she's in the root cellar. It was sounding pretty scary there.

Remember Danielle, click your heels and recite: "There's no place like A.H.! There's no place like A.H.!"

You know, I have lived in Earthquake country all my life--and my additute towards it used to be pretty much like Steve Martin pictured it in L.A. Story. He has a scene with an Earthquake where everyone is eating lunch; the L.A. natives just go on sipping wine and chasing after rolling food and someone says, "Hm? What do you put that as? A 3.0?" And Martin says, "No, I'd put it as 4.2...."

That was until the Northridge quake hit. That was a whole different type of Earthquake. No rolling rollercoaster ride that.

4:30am...BANG! I thought someone had dropped a bomb. The whole building jumped and jerked violently. Things didn't rattle, they went flying. Scared the shit out of me--and pretty much everyone else. To this day, when the bed moves suddenly, or a I feel a rumble in a parking structure, my heart jumps thinking 'Earthquake!"

Right now I live at the end of tornado alley, I've yet to see one personally, or even have one in the near vicinity. The most I've encountered for violent weather are, in order of frequency, blizzards, microbursts, and destructive thunderstorms.

I would love a chance to photograph a tornado some day.. I know it's dangerous, but god what a great shot :p

I'd love to see one up close.
One of those things one should do at least once. I've seen between 20 and 30. Watched them form. Watched them dissipate. Watched a 5 (top of the line) roar into my town. Most of them last less that 3 miles. It's the anomalies that you have to watch for. I'm awed by them.

That's why Nebraska is such an exciting place to live.
No. They have the best steak restaurant in the world there. There aren't many reasons to go to Omaha, but that's one.

Nothing personal, Roxanne, but I would dearly love to rid the world of any reference to the Wizard of Oz and anyone that quotes it. (Movie or book.)

Never seen one.

I remember the sky one hit a small city near Toronto. Looked close enough to touch, the clouds moved wrong and were a sickly green.

Still get the shivers. Wouldn't have been surprised to see a gate to Hell open up.

Enough of this Judy Garland crap!

Tightrope by (Stevie Ray Vaughan)

Caught up in a whirlwind, can't catch my breath.
Knee deep in hot water, broke out in cold sweat.
Can't catch a turtle, in this rat race.
Feels like I'm losing ground, at a breakneck pace.

Afraid of my own shadow, in the face of grace.
Heart full of darkness, spotlight on my face.
There was love all around me, but I was looking for revenge.
Thank God it never found me, would have been the end.

Walkin' the tight rope, steppin on my friends
Walkin' the tight rope, was a shame and a sin.
Walkin' the tight rope, between wrong and right.
Walkin' the tight rope, both day and night. (Solo)

Lookin' back in front of me, in the mirror's grin.
Through eyes of love I see, I'm really lookin at a friend
We've had all our problems, that's the way life is.
My heart goes out to others, who are there to make amends

I hope you're alright!

I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, Toto.

Not sure I can comply anyway, Black. I watch Judy sing it every time the movie's on. (And then turn off the rest.)

I've done the show, BK. More than once.

Last time on the 50th anniversary.

I will perform it again.

Deal with it.

Yep. We're in tornado row. Applebiter, The Fool, blackhaus7, me - any other Kansans I missed?

Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas states get nailed often, as well. It sucks.

You forgot Tennessee in that list. :p

Danielle, I hope that "yay!" was sarcastic.

You wouldn't believe the sky, it's so black it looks like midnight, the rain is coming down so hard I can't see my neighbor's house next door. The wind is blowing and whistling and hail, huge about an inch wide is hitting the ground so hard I can see it bouncing about a foot in the air. Anybody up for a walk in the rain?

greeeeeeaaat... good to know that's headin' our way... not :x

we had hail, too... tornado watches... one reported just south of us... we'll see...
