Top Chef: Chicago

So whats up with Paul Qui anyway? I mean how did he get on top chef, the guy is normal. Not just normal but actually a skilled, humble, nice guy.

I like how the other chefs often run to him and ask him, "Paul hows this", "Paul is this good", etc, and he will take the time to tell them his opinion. Yet the guy is also still evolving his own cooking, fucking up form time to time, but always ending up with something high quality. I hope winning top chef doesn't ruin him.

i dug Beverly too, and her food always looked the yummiest imo. also her lack of social skills and the way everyone else responded to that was painfully familiar. and i agree with YC, sub all the way.

I like how sometimes the subbiness hit her and she starts staggering and knocking everything over, totally overwhelmed by heightened emotion, yet always smiling when it happens. That would be so fun to fuck with.

I like Beverly as well. She seems poised and comfortable during interviews. I think she just isn't aggressive and pushy. She doesn't have a typical chef personality, as Hugh Acheson said in his blog. Anyway, it all comes down to the food, and her food seems to have been pretty consistently good.

A few of the women were really fucking obnoxious to her, and it seemed totally unecessary.

I'm not really excited about any of the women left. I liked Nyesha a lot, but Bev just edged her out in Last Chance Kitchen.

Just watched Last Chance Kitchen. Haha other chefs! Haha!

:D

yeah, that was pretty sweet. :D it would be so awesome if she made it back into the competition, so the rest of those jerks would have to eat their words too.

and as far as Nyesha, while i think she's clearly incredibly talented, she's more than a bit of a snob and she's always carried herself as if she farts roses. i don't get the great chef = giant egotistical arsehole equation. i would think a great chef should care about food and making others happy.

I think a lot of great chefs care about pleasing certain people -- other high powered chefs, certain elite critics, that sort of thing. Plenty of them think they are well above the masses, and those without a refined palate.

My sense of the ego thing comes from reading Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential. I think part of it is that if you have to run a kitchen, you have to boss a whole lot of people around, and those people tend to be foul-mouthed guys who give each other shit all the time. So you either can roll with it or you fail -- at least as I understand it. On the other hand, he also said there were kitchens that were very quiet, and ran like perfect little humming machines.

Also, what I like about Nyesha is that, yes, she thinks highly of herself, but she's not loud and obnoxious about it. Like, uh, Heather (I think that's her name?). She's so agressive! Anyway, Nyesha is very matter of fact, not a lot of fanfare, and I like that. She reminds me of one of my favorites -- Jen from Top Chef Vegas.

And what was up with Lindsay offering that she was prom queen as evidence to support her claim she's competitive? Top of the class, fine. That's an achievement. But how much is involved in "competing" for prom queen?

I don't buy that you can tell if someone seems timid in certain situations that they are sub. I like Beverly and I really don't care if she is or not. While some few are sub or Dom or whatever all the time, I've found more are the opposite of one's daily life is often how one is in the bedroom.

Just like I figured that the dog whisperer probably liked to be controlled in the bedroom after a hard day of being Alpha ever damn day.

I think it's also an elitist thing. How many guys in the kitchen went to culinary school. It's guys working stations vs the career chef.

Boom! Other chefs! IN YOUR FACE! LOL

Technical Precision Quickfire

Okay, what did you think of the teams?

I actually felt that they were all at a disadvantage being paired with each other.

Cat Cora looked beautiful! That's the kind of lesbian I would like my daugther to aspire to be and fuck. Just sayin'.

Padma looked like she was really wearing a short shirt dress! My fav description was that she looked like she had done the walk of shame from a lumberjacks house and borrowed a shirt which he has sawed the sleeves off of.

Emeril looked like Emeril!

LOL

Which would have been the most difficult for you?

The shrimp, pasta or corn?

What kind of dish would you have made?

I was surprised by who won. Were you?

Healthy Block Party Elimination

Asian Barbecue

Meatballs

and

Chicken Salad

Did those seem like good choices?

What did you think of the venue with the bees! Yikes!

What did you think of making the food "to order?"

Or bread for 200 people? Then saying ONLY ONE slice!

Did the right person go home?

Spoiler alert:

Was anyone else surprised after the chair throwing and the crying when his buddy went home that Chris was so chill about going home this week?

Yes, I suppose so.

Um, Cat Cora's a lesbian? I had no idea. I tend to really dig the lesbian chefs for some reason though, and she's no exception!

I was glad to see that particular chef go, although I did enjoy his parting words. I mean, I'm glad he stayed true to himself, but he seemed to be all ideas and not a lot of substance.

Padma looked like she was wearing a nightshirt.

There are a lot of female chefs still standing, which is interesting. I feel like this late in the game, I've usually felt a connection with more of the chefs than I do this season. I do like the men that are left, but not the women, really.

Yes! Check this out! She and her partner were both pregnant AT THE SAME TIME how awesome is that?

From wikipedia: Openly gay, Cora has four sons – Zoran, Caje, Thatcher, and Nash – with her partner, Jennifer Cora. (Jennifer bore the first three; Cat gave birth to Nash three months after Thatcher was born.)

Oh cool! Well, or not, I like being babied when I'm pregnant. Well, then again, I assume she has enough money to outsource that. ;)

The teams... I don't think mattered too much cause the quickfires involve a lot of luck. Winning team would be the one that clicks in the moment. The hardest part for me would have been the shrimp. Peeling, deveining under $5K pressure. That is hard. I liked the corn dish, I'd be down for doing that one. I would have wanted to be on the white team, no drama, chill, but fuck, Paul, you superstitious dummy. I think he freaked himself out.

The block party

All bad choices. You're on top chef in the home stretch, wtf were they all thinking, it's not gonna be easy, I'm surprised by how easy it was. And did nobody consider the sponsor as a plausible hint? I guess they cook, not think.

Paul, amazing for what he had.

Edward, didn't even try. Why did he not go home?

Grayson, total health fail. But high five girl for shutting up Tom.

Lindsay, hmmm. To be fair I think she may not work on camera. The little we see of her makes her snobbish. Also her meatball (face palm) didn't look like much, but that thing was conceptually pretty sweet. She maybe waiting for a moment to pounce, maybe not. Skill is honestly the only thing that's has kept her in.

Sarah, why is she not gone yet?

Chris, I feel like he gave up or something.

Overall I think it was a promote the sponsor episode, which sucks this far in. I would have liked to see Chris keep going and do some crazy magic cooking thing that I know he is the best at, but this close to the end, even the good ones must be cut.

Missed the show with Pee Wee. Anyone know where I can catch it online?

Yay! Bev is back! Take that bitches!

Hahaha!

Not sure - Hulu?

SPOILERS...

I was bummed to see Ed go, but not entirely surprised. I'm so over Lindsay and her prom queen self.

Unless Paul chokes, he'll win it. I would love to see Bev win it all but Paul seems to be in it to win it here.

The other ladies can suck it. I love a bad ass female chef, but these ladies are just bitchy and boring.

So I got myself caught up.

The bike challenge, stupid except I loved it personally because I like backpacking yet still making quality food. Hence I found the weight constraints, ingredient sourcing, and making due with strange kitchens very interesting. Also Padma was flirting with Pee Wee.

Bev is back, I could totally wreak that chick.

On Sara and her pussy guaranteed spot in the final. Granted her dish was awesome, even when I saw her making it I went, wow, this is different. But she took the guarantee! WTF!!
1. She won’t win it anyway.
2. We won’t see what Ed would have made.

Although Ed had it coming, he has been making so many mistakes and getting away with it. When I saw him take those oysters I was like... what?

I think if I had to murder someone to tray Pauls and Bevs dishes, I would seriously think about it.

The final will be a Paul showcase. His only plausible competition could be Bev. Sara at best will scramble to keep up. Lindsay has a small chance, but for sure it will be fun to see what she makes.

Next episode is in Keroin Kountry. I wonder if their protein will be Chuck?

Makes you kinda wanna see Michelle Bernstein "mentor" Lindsay with some whips and gags.

Thanks. But nope. Not Hulu. Not sure why Bravo is such a little bitch about this. The barbecue episode is on there and that's it. Other than little clips and teasers. Wha?

Spoilers on latest episode.

Oh no! Bev!

It’s kinda fucked up not to have the base ingredients she conceptualized her dish on, but then again so is freezing ingredients into ice blocks, making them cook on hotplates in an unstable gondola, and making noobs ski like madmen for 10k and the chance at the top 3.

Sara is such a bitch, and does not consistently cook well. I don’t think she deserves it.

Overall I think this episode was just, funny. Kinda a mind fuck considering the pressure on the contestants. But we are all pro mind fuck here so fuck on.

I was sad. To see Bev go. OTOH, I don't think there should be a Last Chance Kitchen at all.

The challenges this week were NUTS. I was glad to see Paul help out the ladies AND win. Aww! Good man!

Sara consistently whines about not wanting to have to cook and takes the easy way out. Not a fan.

What surprised me was her and Bev's farewells. I know Sara doesn't like Bev but just think you might have thought she wanted to have sex with her or something. Strange. Fake. Bullshit.
