ARRIVAL
You stand on a packed-earth road at the edge of a small settlement. The air is thick with woodsmoke, warm fur, and something deeper — a low, electric pressure that weighs on the belly and makes the skin feel tight. Evening light hangs gold and red over low wooden buildings and the dark line of forest beyond.
A multi-tailed fox woman leans against a post, watching you with open curiosity. Her ears flick once.
“You’re new,” she says. Not a question. “You don't smell local.”
She pushes off the post and walks closer, tails swaying.
“Name’s Sable. I can show you how this place works… or you can try to figure it out the hard way.” She nods towards a fight taking place in the center of town. A crowd was cheering one fighter and booing another. From here you can't tell which is which.
She tilts her head as a blood-chilling shriek and silence signals the end of the fight below.
"I woudn't advise the hard way."
“So. Do you want the slow lesson, or do you already know what you're doing?”
