Since everyone is so happy to pick on smokers, I thought it was high time to shine the spotlight on another vice which is slowly killing people. Of course, here on Lit everyone turns a blind eye to it.

Too Much Weight Ups Alzheimer's Risk

By Meryl Hyman Harris
HealthDay Reporter

THURSDAY, April 6 (HealthDay News) -- People who are overweight or obese in their 40s have a greater risk of developing Alzheimer's disease later in life, a new study suggests.

"The implication is that keeping a healthy weight in middle age is linked to good outcomes in old age," said study author Rachel A. Whitmer, a research scientist at Kaiser Permanente of Northern California.

Whitmer and other researchers are finding increasing evidence that Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia are often linked to physical, and sometimes preventable, causes.

"There has been a whole bunch of recent evidence that being overweight is bad for the brain," she said.

Hey LadyF, I'm 6 feet....175.....lean and mean for my age.

wannna feel my muscle(s).. :)

Oh, I can remember all the way back to yesterday... :)

On a related issue...the end of The Notebook was stupid.
Those who read/saw it will understand.

Really? I thought it was a combination of preparing tomato soup in an aluminum sauce pan... and anal sex.

I can't wait to see if someone is gonna be offended here.. Or someone is gonna go off on how fat people are killing themselves with grease, the same way as smokers does.

This should be good.

Why was it stupid?

Because that simply doesn't happen. I can believe a lot of things in a love story but an alzheimers patient suddenly having such clarity at such an opportune moment? No.

They don't know it's killing them?
I'm pretty sure they do, just as smokers know.
If they get offended by facts then fuck 'em. Insults and ignorance are different of course.

Oh. I'd like to think it could. There is still so much we don't know about Alzheimer's... perhaps jogging someone's memory on a regular basis could help.

Don't happen. It's a very romantic idea but the disease just doesn't allow for it.
Once the person reaches a certain stage then that's it. You hear once in a while about something similar but it's always bullshit. They said something about Reagan becoming clear right at the end but nobody really believed it.
The disease is too overpowering and all-encompassing.

Would I do that to you? <-- Fuck her!

Fuck me... I knew I was at risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke, but now that Alzheimer's is linked to obesity, I might seriously have to consider that being overweight is potentially unhealthy.

You got me...no idea.

Have we hijacked this thread thoroughly yet?

Its a serious subject to be sure, but the woman called me fat.

I am NOT fat. I'm big boned.

Yet another reason fat people suck. Like we needed one.

But y'know, it's like smoking. No matter how many reasons there are against it, there will still be plenty of people who still don't give a shit that they're killing themselves and disgusting everyone around them.

Assholes.

I always forget to take my Alzheimer's medicine.....
