Too fat to be beauty contestant

Last edited:
Beauty contestants are mainly wank fodder for men and a pasttime for women, when they are bored or would look to see a bit of fashion and glamour.
Nobody takes them seriously any longer.

And by the standards of such beauty contests -not to be confused with real life, where she would be called gorgeous-
she Did look a bit chunky here:

Your brain is a bit chunky if you think she looks fat.

She does look fat in this context. She is fat in this context. I am fat as a runway model too. So what, that is not the right context for me. I am not built like a clothing hanger. So? This does not bother me as I am not trying to be a runway model. Stop trying to change reality ad accept it. Your proposed changes will never happen.

That's not what I said.
And that would also mean some sort of self-flagellation on my part, because next to her I look like a whale.

It's just about the context, like LadyF said.

IRL she would be labeled as 'curvy and beautiful not fat at all.
But beauty shows are usually for women on the lower side of the normal BMI, as opposed to women on the higher end of healthy BMI. In contrast to the other contestants, she stands out and looks big.

Should they change the culture of modelling and beauty contests?
-- On one hand I would say yes, since too many young girls are trying to emulate those impossible stamdards and end up with eating disorders and so on
-- On the other hand, as a mature individual who knows that it's all just escape from real life and entertainment and not real, I'd be more inclined to watch beauty contestants where the contestants are on the lower side of the BMI.
Tough one, indeed

Sort of dumb, LF. She came in second in the Miss Italy contest. Second, runner-up. It's not like she wasn't judged to be in the running with her shape. So, it's really dumb to say competing/winning with a curvy figure will never happen. She came in second in a national beauty contest. Looks like your idea of reality is being challenged with some success.

Saying the word dumb twice won't convince us.

A lot of us are firm in our belief that LadyF is waay on the higher side of IQ of Lit.,
and that her arguments are anything BUT dumb
lol

"A lot of us..."

It would normally be wise to defer to not only an expert - and in this case we're talking about the epitome of dumb - but hashtag also thinks busybody and JBJ are smart...

Even when pisting as a woman.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Again with the butt-holes hashy. Seems the only time butt-holes don't appear in your pists, is when you are copying and pasting your pists from another source.

Dumb, and obsessed with the butt-holes. You're the full histrionic cluster B package.

*chvckle*

I have no need to convince you. You can stay dumb about it along with LF. I just pointed out the obvious. The woman can compete in beauty pageants. She's runner up to Miss Italy. Duh.

Relax. I was just trying to poke you with a stick.:)
I don't think you're dumb either. :rose:

Poking someone with a dumb stick is pretty dumb, isn't it? The thread title is "too fat to be beauty contestant." LF said yes--and not only "yes" but that a curvy woman would never be able to compete. But the woman obviously isn't too fat to be a beauty contestant if she came in second in a national-level beauty contest. Duh.

On a more serious note,

My take on all that beauty peagant drama is that they made a mistake.

1.If they want to challenge or change the skinny girl culture in modeling or beauty peagants, they should try it in other ways - maybe lobbying for such things in a more formal manner.
Like asking for a beauty pageant where almost any healthy body size is accepted.

2.What they did instead was send in just one person who doesn't fit the typical beauty pageant standards.
Of course she stood out by a mile compared to the other contestants. When she stepped out on the podium, I bet everyone thought to themselves: why does that girl look so much bigger than the waif-like contestants?

And of course that would attract attention on social media, which is ripe with unpleasant and dertogatory comments any way. So They set her up for that sort of online bullying.
And what did they expect the judges to do? Give her a crown or a honorary mention as some sort of politically correct move?

5'9" size 14

How many would kill to look like her? How many would kill to be with her? Too fat! LOL

You need to spend more time in Montreal instead of Woodbridge.

Props for truth.
The value of beauty pageants are debatable, but defending your own failed life choices and fat assery is not.

Being fat sucks, trying to defend it is the worst kind of denial. Defending a Size 14 pageant runner up...well if you're not here yet, slap on some bottle tanner and get yourself to Ontario.

She's a size 14 by US standards which means 16 by UK and Au standards.

What's there to defend?

Honestly, how on Earth you can call her "fat" is just beyond belief.

If you sat an 8 year old next to half of these models they'd look fat too! But are they? No.

I don't get the Ontario ref, sorry.

She's a size 14 by US standards which means 16 by UK and Au standards.

So she's a UK 14? That's not fat.

1.Unlike porkwarrior, neither I, nor LadyF claimed that she's fat. Far from that.
And hell no, I've always been of stocky build and on the higher end of the normal BMI so who am I to judge?

We were referring to the fact that beauty pageants and especially modelling have different standards from the real world. They prefer women who are naturally thin and on the lower side of the normal BMI, because clothes hang differently on those women. Clothes hangers not meant in a prejorative way.

2.As to your question: no, she's a size 16 by UK or Au standards. ((14 by US = 16 in Au))
Given her height (she's quite tall) I'm sure that it's within normal range.
But I'm not 100% sure how far up she's within the normal range of BMI, since BMI is calculated according to age (most of us put on some weight as we age.) And she's only 22.
