Numerous sources close to Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady remain convinced that the all-time great is preparing to retire from the game, with a formal announcement expected shortly.

Several sources who are within Brady's inner circle anticipate that he will most likely reveal his future plans in the coming days. Brady is a historian of the game, he understands what it takes for players and teams to reach this point in the season, and would not want to upstage the game itself in any way. Making an announcement the week leading up to the Super Bowl would not be his style, and waiting until after the Super Bowl, with the scouting combine then just weeks away, might begin to cut into the Buccaneers' ability to pivot as an organization and readjust their plans for 2022 if it was now to not include arguably the greatest football player who ever lived.

"He is very respectful of the game, and has great respect for the Tampa organization and all they have done for him," said one source close to the quarterback. "He understands the ramifications that this decision would have on the team moving forward, and he would never want to do anything to upstage the playoffs. Whatever he decides, I'd expect he announces it soon."

Wow, Rightguide posts a news article that isn't about far-right politics from some fringe propaganda "news" site! That is something unheard of.

But on a serious note, I've been a Tom Brady fan for as long as he was in the league. Nobody has accomplished even a fraction of what he has in his career, and he owns nearly every passing record there is- including "oldest active player in NFL history." Clearly it is time, and what more is there to achieve? I would have liked to have seen him take the Bucs to another title, but it wasnt going to happen, if not this year than probably any year. Seven Super Bowl wins is beyond amazing. It has truely been a dream career.

I applaud his decision to step down even before his skills deteriorated enough that he's just be an "average" QB, as was almost the case this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he may regret not stopping after the Super Bowl win last year, retiring on top. Perhaps he thought he could do it again this year, but it was a gamble at best.

I'm a Chiefs' fan, and so many people are already calling Mahomes the "GOAT." He's had an impressive start. But until you get even close to 22 successful seasons and 7 rings, you shouldn't be in the conversation yet. Hopefully in 15 years or so we'll be having that discussion about Mahomes, but not yet.

Some guy named Blanda was 48 when he hung up the cleats.

After serving primarily as the kicker for several years, with the occasional snap at QB. If Brady had continued, he would have been the oldest to start a football game at QB when he hit 45.

But yes, Blanda was incredible as well.

Okay...who is Tom Brady and why should I care if he retires?

Nope. Not yet.

i'm guessing it has, but it wasn't supposed to be announced yet. most usually wait until after the season is actually done to announce shit like this. big ben didn't, but he's a cunt. it's to be expected.

and now at least the guardian and the new york post are saying he's retired again.

and i'm too blah to read either article. someone else do it.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Tom Brady officially announces retirement

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has officially announced his retirement from the NFL, saying Tuesday in an Instagram post that he is "not going to make that competitive commitment anymore."

"I have always believed the sport of football is an 'all-in' proposition -- if a 100% competitive commitment isn't there, you won't succeed, and success is what I love so much about our game," Brady said in his statement on Instagram. "There is a physical, mental and emotional challenge EVERY single day that has allowed me to maximize my highest potential. And I have tried my very best these past 22 years. There are no shortcuts to success on the field or in life.

"This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention. I've done a lot of reflecting the past week and have asked myself difficult questions. And I am so proud of what we have achieved. My teammates, coaches, fellow competitors, and fans deserve 100% of me, but right now, it's best I leave the field of play to the next generation of dedicated and committed athletes."

"Like every bug you’ve ever had infesting your beloved household, Tom Brady decided to infest our lives again. Look I’m not here to disparage what he’s accomplished as a quarterback in the National Football League, even though I do think he would have not been nearly as successful had he played in the NFL of the 1970s. Let’s be honest here: if Brady couldn’t move the ball downfield with pass interference calls his career might have lasted three years....

"What kind of mindset makes one think he shouldn’t stay home and just hang out with his smoking hot supermodel wife? I mean, has this guy been checked for a head injury in the NFL concussion protocol?"

Agreed.

Not only were the rules changed to protect the QB, but the refs have specifically protected him for the past 10 years.
