I've got an appointment in 30 minutes to have my wisdom tooth examined and extracted. I'm not a wuss but I've never had a tooth pulled before. In fact, I don't have any bad dental history whatsoever.

I made the mistake of asking some friends last night for their war stories so I could get some perspective on what to expect.

Bad move!

Anyway, I've been a little scarce and I'm bound to be scarcer so I'll see you all when I can!

Relax. It isn't that bad. Just a bit of pressure and it is done.
*hugs*

Good luck, my thoughts go with you. Had all four of mine out all ready thank god. Top ones easy, bottom ones not so. But they have made good advances, and the second bottom one came out easier than the first one. No hammer and chisel method now (I am not joking) so I think you will be alright just make sure you have painkillers around for a few days.

I'm thinking dentists pull four at a time because it's like having your nipples pierced. If you don't do it all at once it's like....pulling teeth!...to go back and get the others done.

I only have one that is problematic. The other three grew in and made themselves at home. This last one is a late bloomer and just giving me fits! I have periodic weeks of intense pain and swelling and then about 2 weeks of relief. Each time it gets worse and this last bout made me think I couldn't go through it again. It obviously needs to be yanked.

I'm shakin' in my slippers and not looking forward to chipmunk cheeks or two weeks of gruel. I'm not even going to think about my aching jaw or dry sockets.

*shudder*

Not bad, really. I left work mid morning, had all 4 pulled at once, and was home by lunch time back on the computer sending stuff to my secretary. She was really confused how I was on the computer whenI was supposed to be getting my teeth pulled!

I did get a bruise on my jaw because the lower ones were tough to get out. But it didn't really hurt, I thought it was dirt at first and scrubbed harder! LOL

As for the teeth, I was back to eating regular food just about the next day. Just be careful to keep the area clean and not get food stuck in it until it can heal.

You'll be find. Not a big deal at all. :rose:

yikes!

hey just be glad you aren't taking it out yourself with an iceskate and a rock.

eternal optimist says: At least you'll have scripts!

It's really not bad. I had my bottom two done first, and then my tops later. There is just a bit of pressure that you feel. There is no pain. I promise! And I'm one of those people who are scared to death of the dentist. It'll be ok. :) tc

Good luck to you Rambling Rose! Hubby had all four of his out several years ago and considering what a big friggin' baby he is, he was doing just fine after a few days. I don't remember him stayins swollen for very long either.

I had to get my jaw broken, the they needed to fish some of the toth from the nasal cavity.

Had to black eyes, couldn't eat anything but ice-cream for two weeks.. mm Ice Cream..

Shame!!:p

Anyway, good luck Rose. Just make sure you follow the hygene instructions and avoid infection. Apart from that, a few days and you'll be as right as rain.

Not my dentist, I am sure he was a sadist of the highest order. Took two top ones out in one go, no problem, just to lull me into a false sense of security. Got me back for the first bottom one which he proceeded to....well no details but I was still spitting out splinters of bone after 18 month. Did not go back surprisingly for the other bottom one until my face swelled up like balloon. But went to hospital instead of dentist they went easier but still took two hours and they damaged the root. Anyone who has a wisdom tooth out will know about THE ROOT, the one you sign the disclaimer for.

Thanks friend.

An old friend comforted me last night with tales of his extraction and subsequent infection nightmare after they left a sliver of tooth in and later denied it. Months later it popped out of his gum while eating a sandwich. Ugh!

It's just one tooth. It's just one tooth. It's just one tooth.

Wear are my ruby slippers?

Okay, this is the first I've heard of THE ROOT. I don't think I'm opening this thread again.

Rose,

I was an extreme case. I had compound wisdom teeth, that grew under the 2 back molers. So, they need to do a a surgery for me.

Most cases, that I have ever heard about, are just a pull, or they don't even remove them if you have enoug room in your jaw structure to hold all the teeth.

rambling at least all the pain you're feeling now will be over with when they take it out

i haven't had my wisdom teeth out so i guess i have this to look forward too :)

anyway good luck :)

The worst part when I had my four back teeth removed was the injection into the roof of my mouth - that fucking hurt! Then no pain, and the intriguing sensation of the tooth sliding out of your gum being pulled by the dentist holding pliers. I love the way dentists continue to have a conversation with you even when your mouth is full of gloved hand and metal.

My poor widdle wambling wose! *huggies* I actually had a pretty good time while the doc was pulling mine. I was lucid (sorta) and feelin' no pain! The drugs were GREAT and he had Buddy Holly on in the background. Did I mention that the drugs were Grrrrrrrrrrrreat!?

Besides, you know Mamma Rose will be there afterwards to coddle and take care of you.

*hug* it's gonna be fine, schveetheart!

Love & smoochies,

N.

(and wear jeans and a button up shirt and don't forget to flash the dentist a lot. They like that.)

It's not that bad. I slept through all four of my wisdom teeth getting yanked out.

Of course, I was in bootcamp at the time and exhaustion for us wimpy types was the order of the day. I loved the dentist. It meant "nap time!"

I remember the word count, and then I was instantly waking up and my head felt really heavy. I was crying but from the anesthesia not the pain. I couldn't actally feel anything at all and when the pain did come it wasn't so bad.

Plus you get fun pain killing drugs and if you have a loving brother he'll make you a pot milkshake (which tastes better than it sounds) and you won't feel a damn thing for days.

Good luck sweetie. I'll be thinking of you.
