It feels like longer than 13 years but back in 1990, deposed Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega was arraigned in federal district court in Miami on drug-trafficking charges.

Why Noriega being punished for working with CIA?

DannyBoyUK, welcome back to the GB.

A word of caution: the Ignore feature will now block users from seeing any threads you start. I think there's lots of users that still have you on Ignore from your past shenanigans here.

So you're going to need a new username for starting threads.

Exactly. I love that new feature!

As an aside...the "Hey! I'm ignoring you! " post is obviously counter-intuitive and typically a female generated post* on Lit, so I wonder....

Do you think that women who get in your face to proclaim to you (and more importantly, the Audience) they are NOT listening to you...instead of simply not listening to you... get that behavior from:

* hormones,

* an inflated sense of importance

* teacher's college

* all of the above

[/hijack]

Thanks

Lance

* exceptions: Miles and PC.

Agreed.

In that case:

I think the USA would be better off in the long run by not supplying money & munitions ( or turning a blind eye toward drug dealings) to questionable characters for the sake of "intelligence".

Noriega, Saddam Hussein, & Bin Laden being prime examples.

I don't think it's intelligent, or cost-effective. I don't think it's good propaganda, either.

The New World Order wants to keep the mass population druged and sedated.

Did you know Canada is world largest prescrived drug consumer per whatever?

In 1981 - British police arrest Peter Sutcliffe, a truck driver later convicted of "Yorkshire Ripper" murders of 13 women.

Given that he had been questioned after the second of the murders, at least 11 sets of relatives must still be wondering why he wasn't nailed earlier.

It was 1838 and the telegraph is demonstrated for the first time in public at the Speedwell Iron Works in Morristown, New Jersey.
(I wonder if the Speedwell folks have moved onto the internet?!)

Ella Grasso becomes the governor of Connecticut in 1975. She was the first woman to become a governor of a state without a husband preceding her in the governor’s chair.

"Convoy", recorded by CW McCall, hits number one on the country music charts. What a great song!

If I am, CV, who programmed me?

Actress Mary Pickford marries actor Douglas Fairbanks in 1935. (Rumour has it there is a hard-core website somewhere with the pics of what they got up to on their wedding night.....)

January 11th

Apparently in 1835, the 1st pineapples are planted in Hawaii. Now HOW does anyone know that for sure? I hope that a fellow Lit member can come on board to say "no my great great great great grand-daddy planted some on January 7th"

Only a recent one here but some people have more money than sense. In 1999, setting an all-time record, Mark McGwire's 70th HR ball is purchased at an auction by an anonymous buyer for $3 million; the previous largest amount ever paid for a ball was $126,500 which bought a Babe Ruth home run ball.

January 13th

The original Tompkins Square Riot in 1874. As unemployed workers demonstrated in New York's Tompkins Square Park, a detachment of mounted police charged into the crowd, beating men, women and children indiscriminately with billy clubs and leaving hundreds of casualties in their wake. Commented Abram Duryee, the Commissioner of Police: "It was the most glorious sight I ever saw..."
