...heavy Precipitation And Warmer Temperatures Coming To Southern
Alaska...

A Storm Off The Coast Of Russia Is Sending A Surge Of Warm Air
Through The Bering Sea And Toward Mainland Alaska. This Warm Air Will
Arrive In Southcentral Alaska On Saturday...causing Temperatures To
Climb Above Freezing At Most Locations On Saturday Night And Sunday.
At The Same Time...widespread Rain Will Develop From The Kenai
Peninsula To Anchorage And The Mat-su Valley Ahead Of A Cold Front.
Rain May Be Heavy At Times As Abundant Moisture Will Be Available
From The Subtropics. Cold Air Will Move Quickly Back Into The Area
Sometime Sunday Night...and Has The Potential To Change Heavy Rain To
A Heavy Wet Snow Before Things Taper Off On Monday Morning.

Forecast Uncertainty...confidence Is Increasing In A Significant
Amount Of Precipitation Falling Across The Area Late This Weekend.
However...there Remains A Large Amount Of Uncertainty With The Timing
Of The Return Of Cold Air And How Quickly Rain Will Change Back To
Snow And Begin To Accumulate.

Impacts...the Ground Remains Saturated From Fall Storms...and Has Now
Begun To Freeze With Recent Cold Temperatures. Heavy Rainfall On
Saturated And/or Frozen Ground Has The Potential To Lead To Localized
Flooding Issues By Sunday Afternoon. Additionally...as Temperatures
Drop Quickly Below Freezing On Monday Roads And Other Surfaces May
Become Icy. This Could Be Made Even Worse If Any Amount Of Slush Or
Wet Snow Accumulates After Temperatures Begin To Drop.

One less bear in the 'hood

"A small brown bear died after being hit by a pickup truck Friday morning, in a South Anchorage collision which left the driver uninjured according to local police.

APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro says dispatchers were informed of the crash, involving a silver Chevrolet pickup truck on a curve of Rabbit Creek Road near its intersection with the Old Seward Highway, just after 7 a.m. Officers arrived at the scene shortly before 7:30 a.m.

“The bear had hit the side of a vehicle -- the vehicle essentially ran over the bear,” Castro said.

Castro says the bear didn’t survive its injuries from the collision, walking some distance but ending up against a guardrail near the crash site.

“The bear had died when officers arrived at the scene,” Castro said.

Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game were called to remove the bear, arriving at about 9 a.m. Rabbit Creek wasn’t closed by the crash, but officers conducted traffic control during the response."

I drive this way at about 6:10a, daily.
