To Write, or not to Write?

That is indeed the question. I have writen privately for many years now. Well, I'm only 24, I will admit. But I have been reading and snooping on this site for about two years now. Should I write, or not? What do you think?

You either have to write, or you don't.

If you don't have an overwhelming urge at least sometimes - don't bother.

But if you do write, and post it here?

It might get mercilessly savaged, criticised or praised. It might be copied all over the internet and you would have no redress.

But whether you decide to write or not, welcome to the Authors' Hangout. Beware trolls and other unpleasant characters.

Reply to the good person who has replied to my thread.

Thank you. I try to write every day. God willing that is. I rp on Yahoo and a few other sites, and I simply write in my documents. I however, save for a few select people, have ever shared any of my work. I have seen some of the outlandishly stupid comments left by some poor "unnamed" people on other authors works. Its childish and stupid. I will perhaps soon post something here. Or there, on the site. Thank you for your kind words. And may your day be enlightening.

Welcome to the AH.

You've read, snooped, made an account, and started a thread. The next thing is to write. :)

My reply and then a quick question or two. ;)

I did the same thing and only lurked and read here for a year or two. Broke my typing cherry finally and never really looked back. :)

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got came from a fellow LE author in an email and basically said: 'Don't write for others, or for glory, or red H's at the end of the title. Do it because YOU like to write and have nuts big enough to put it out there for judgement and maybe some great ego strokes too.' Only thing I can add to that is: Have a thick skin and also be aware, that even Hemingway & Stephen King fought the occasional writer's block flu.

Question #1: Are you male or female? (if "M" is the answer, please go to 1A: you dont also RP on aoHell and go by 'shane' do you??? LOL)

Question #2: What genre or LE specific category would your writings most likely fit into?

The Answer.

Thanks for the great advice. Now the answer to your question is: 1) I am male, and my name is "J" for the time being. And I have never Role-played on AOL to be honest :D. If you are interested in conversing with me outside of mediums such as LE, my yahoo is subliminal_catastrophe. Now, to be honest, there is nothing I wouldn't write. I dont know alot about the in's-and-out's of BDSM however I have been researching it. I have flirted with Taboo's such as "Non-human" and "Incest". I have ventured into the realms of the "Si-fi" catagories. I have even typed out a story about homosexual Nazi's with an intrigue with the occult. Like I said, there is nothing I haven't or wouldnt broach once given the idea. Thank you.:D

If you're asking the question, write. Write because you already want to write. If you didn't you wouldn't be asking the question. Asking the question is really you seeking confirmation. Consider it confirmed. Write all you want. :) I know this from experience. I started writing here when I was about 23 or 24. I haven't written in a long time and I regret that large gap of not writing. Don't let the time slip by wondering. Just write away! You have nothing to loose, but everything to gain. Let's face it, if you wrote something, and it didn't pan out, which is unlikely, then you didn't loose any time by writing. You gained valuable practice because the overwhelmingly kind folks at this AH will help you. They've helped me. Just be sure to keep an open mind and enjoy a little bit of salt as you may need a grain or two at times. ;) I hope my encouragement gives you all you need to take up the reigns and enjoy this wonderful passion! :D

Thank you

To the post above: Thank you. I am currently brainstorming for Ideas, I have something I think about a world of animal people, a tyrant, a slave and some hero's. I am just ironing out the details. Maybe one day I will ask you "HEY... Edit this for me please!" And you shall reply with only "". Anyway, thank you very much. And I hope to speak to all of you who have replied to this post, frequently, and get to know you all. You are all very kind people.

If you've enjoyed your two years here then by all means write and post - you will have more fun and pain, but that is what makes life worth living!

Welcome! I look forward to getting to know you and to read your work! Have fun.

O.- Have I introduced you to my monicle?

Ah. Well I shall listen to the good people of the forum and ignore your statment. And I am not a lad. I am a Gentleman. Thank you.

Hmmmmm.....looks like young Jedi not only learns quickly, but carries his own light sabre also! :D

I think "J" may become a refreshing new breeze around the hallways here. ;)

Why thank you.

Why thank you dear friend. And yes, I do carry my own light sabre... :D And I am quite adept at its use :p. I shall return your pm by the way, as soon as I get back from the store. I need to pick up a few things. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was blowing you off. Im not. And I would love to converse about a few points within the message. Anyway, have fun! -huggles all the new friends- And  to the haters, and trolls. :D

Once you start, it will flow. Do you have a story you have "soft" written? Soft writing is getting it all together in your head. I do that before I put anything down on screen (wow, I was about to say on paper). Scene by scene. I even imagine the dialogue in my head.

Sometimes I do it while working out, or in the bath, or walking the dog. It should be separate from the physical act of typing out your story.

Good luck! Look forward to seeing your...eventual...work.

Again, this was not posted by sr71plt. Reported.

I don't know if you're aware or not, but the two usernames don't exactly match. Check your numeral "1" against a lower case "L", and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks. I saw that after the initial "whoa." "Someone" must really want to get into my pants to want so much to be me. (Wonder who that might be. :D) Laurels already wiped them out, though.

Anyway, welcome Ghostwriter--and write when you feel compelled to do so and have something in mind. No need to try to force it.

Oh gawd!

I thought total junior high crap like that only went on in the unofficial 'Gay Everquest' game over in the aoHell chat rooms.

Why do I keep getting the feeling that posting here may be a lot like tiptoeing thru a room filled with egg shells; but you best have on the steel-toed boots when you do it??? (lacing up my 'Oh yeah ~ I be butch' ones right now....just in case! ;) )

I am really beginning to LIKE it here at 'The Hangout.' :D

Alts?

There appear to be a lot of 'og's on Literotica. I haven't listed those who start with a single 'g'.

Accept no substitutes. I'm the one who writes stories.

Welcome Ghostwriter :), looks like you're getting your feet wet, just watch the turds, lol :D

I was thinking, that if you like RP so much, take one of your episodes and write about that. Maybe take it where you wanted it to go and it didn't. Fiction is the fun part of reality, that we never get to do, save a lucky few. Try something like that and submit it. As noted, some genres are hell to write and post in, the readers and trolls are extremely brutal and factional.

Whatever you decide, enjoy writing it and explore the challenges and resources to help improve your style. No question is stupid, we all asked them at one time, so feel free to post them in the appropriate thread, or start one.

Cheers :)

Excellent advice!

I am more than willing to admit, that my own RP fun times are lovingly (and seriously) referred to as 'research' more times than confessing that I just love doin' it! ;)

Some of the best RP scene set-ups, make for fantastic story themes to begin to work with.

Even the hour long quickie with my favorite cyber buddy last night, had a couple LE whack-story-worthy twists to it....just hate having to work around that damn "minimum 18" crap rule, when it was a couple high school boiz goin' at it, in the gym bathroom. :D
