thank you.

And to your families for their sacrifice as well.

We have the Memorial Day concert in Washington, D.C., going on the TV, and I note that they "don't get it" about this special day. Veteran's Day is in the fall. Memorial Day is for those who have fallen during military service.

For those who have such relatives, here's thinking of the sacrifice your famlies have made.

My dad died from such a wound--from the Korean War, although he'd been wounded in WWII also. The last war wound just took thirty years to kill him. We did manage to get to the grave in Arlington National Cemetery today. The flag display is quite impressive.

Thank you. It truly was a privilege and an honor to serve.

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

To all of my Comrades in Arms, the rough men and women who have fallen, I salute you and I miss you.

To all the Viet Nam veterans: Thank you for your service and Welcome Home.

Thank you, it was an honor.

but I'd rather not do it again and again.

I admire your consistency. :)

Seriously, though, thank you for your service. And to your father and his and your family's sacrifice.

The American Widow Project has a segment on tv now. A good thing.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Despite the great debt to the veterans, we must remember the fallen.

I tend to agree with Lincoln's thinking about how you cant really honor soldiers and sailors because the honor is in the deed NOT any citizen's opinion of the deed. The deeds are old and gray by the time the awards are handed out, and I've seen my share of imposters get awards for the deeds other, better, men performed. Honor isnt a popularity contest, and coatholders flatter themselves thinking they can validate it.

Oh, but we will.

Every year I have to remind our local cadets what Armistice Day is all about.
I sometimes wonder what their parents have been teaching them.

A salute to the living
A Prayer for the dead.

Thank you for your service. Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for your protection and your honor and your boundless love for everything you believe in. Thank you. Those words are hardly adequate, but they are from the deepest part of my .

Memories

Thank you ... but I returned.

Today is for those who did not ... my long dead brothers who lie beneath the stars tonight. In Korea and Vietnam and Iraq.

If there is a God may he hold you in his arms and I will see you soon and thanks.
