Neither vouyer nor exhibitionist here. I like direct sexual encounters with real people, anything third party leaves me cold...although it can sometimes be entertaining in other ways.

I know that sounds strange coming from a person with a large porn collection, but my delight in porn mostly comes from the joys of collecting or indulging my peculiar aesthetics, not sexual fetishism. Once in a blue moon a porn image or movie will give me an interesting idea and I'll masturbate to the idea, but mostly, while fascinating (I love seeing other people's creativity), it leaves me erotically cold. Watching other people in a live context is even worse. It's a terrible chore that I perform only for the very best of my friends. I even draw a distinction between messageboarding for exhibitionistic reasons and message boarding due to a desire for attention from others. To me those are two related but distinct motivations. Also, for me, ideas are not people: you own them, maybe, but they are not you, and once they leave your pen or keyboard, they become "not you." They're just out there. And when I publish something about sex in a place where other people can read it, that thing--be it story, essay, post or text chat--no longer even belongs to me: it is shared, it belongs to whoever reads it. And it has little to no relation to who I actually am. The best authors have tried, but cannot capture even 1/10th of the complexity of the simplest person in words. What you get are either greater or lesser caricatures, rough outlines of an actual person. So text, to me, is a very safe way to share: no exposure, no violation, no "real me" there, lol.
