To tan or not to tan?... (gripe)

This happens all the time. I'll be reading a story here, and even starting to get into it. Then - suddenly - "I unhooked her bra to reveal her luscious, perky suntanned breasts". After that, I *cannot* read any further. I hit the back button as fast as I can. The story has ceased to become erotic and is just simply disgusting.
Yet a staggering majority of stories here involve a suntanned woman. Why? I for one find fair skin on a woman very attractive. I feel it enhances her fragility and vulnerability. I know there are many other men and women who agree with me. Pale skin seems more soft and delicate than tanned skin - leathery, tough, unhealthy skin is NOT a turn on for me.
So why is it a must to create characters with tans? Especially women who wouldn't normally even have them (natural redheads)?
Please don't take this to be racist at all. I love the interracial section of this site and I find black women and hispanic women very sexy. I'm just curious why it's standard to make every Caucasion woman in a story a sun-worshipper.

Tan or not?

I think it depends on the character. Some of my characters are pale as death...others are tanned. It says a bit about who they are maybe.

And what turns you on, may not turn on the next guy/gal...You could do what I do, and imagine your own ideal as you read the majik that someone else had created, get it to danse the way you want it to.

Just a thought.

Crack open a cosmo or sports illustrated swimsuit issue. It's the standard of complection- I can't spell complection, yeesh- beauty. Tanned women abound. It's just dragging that image further.

I think the powers of description a lot of authors around here possess pedal right around the average norm.

Tan...

I am blonde, blue eyed, and normally very pale...
I tan. My one and only set of tan lines is my breasts....My boyfriend finds it erotic to see the white skin of my breasts in contrast to the darker tan of my skin.

Rough and leathery? I think not. I am religious with body oils and lotions...My skin is very supple and soft.

I do agree with you that tanning is focused upon in many stories, I myself am a brunette, but i do not tan very easily at all, and sometimes i wonder if anybody at all finds pale skin sexy! Everybody has their own tastes, and we all have to accept that, but its nice to see that some people appreciate us pasty people!!!
