To ride on the Fourth or not to ride?

So the Fourth is rapidly approaching and I have to decide if we are going to take the bike to the Fireworks or to take the car.

On one hand we both love riding the bike and it would make parking a lot easier downtown.

On the other hand there are some bad points.

A) All of the drunks on the roads.
B) Heavy traffic after the fireworks.
C) We'll be dodging the fireworks being set off by people along the route home.
D) We'll be close to the Gross Weight of the bike.

Oh and the festivities for us will be starting at around noon, as will the eating. I have just finished Par Boiling the Ribs with Garlic, Onion, Paprika and Chipotle Peppers. Once the ribs were pulled out they were gently and lovingly rubbed with a mix of freshly minced Garlic and crushed Chipotle Peppers. When they had cooled enough they were tenderly wrapped in plastic and stored in the back of the fridge. On the Fourth the smoker will be fired up nice and early, (roughly 0600.) and the ribs eased into it. They will be done right around noon.

The festivities will continue downtown later in the day. After a short nap we will head downtown to the street party. This year the food and music theme is South American so we will be graced with plenty of Hispanic style foods and some great music before the fireworks. (Our fair little city always puts on a good show.)

So the question remains, shall we be taking the bike or the car?

Stay off the roads?

Or travel in a large truck?

We, and your patients, need you in one piece.

I was planning to hike up the Monticello Mountain trail on the 4th, but now that el-presidente is going to be speaking up at Monticello for the annual new citizens' naturalization ceremony that day, the mountain will surely be shut down--so I hiked that trail today. It'll have to be somewhere else for that hike on the 4th. The Blue Ridge maybe.

Well, since you put it that way....

Don't know if you live in or near the town or not, but my daughter was your way a few weeks ago for that big art show/workshop.

I do live near the town (I can "winter" see Monticello in one direction and the Blue Ridge in another direction), but I wasn't aware there was a big art show a few weeks ago--might have been when I was doing the Carolina coast and the Spoleto festival in Charleston.

As much as I'd love to say go riding...sounds like you'd be better off taking the car. Shame, really.

I'm looking into alternate places to park as well as alternate routes.

One option we are looking at is to just stay late at the fireworks and leave after the traffic. We would then head west for a north south road that is lightly traveled.

That is certainly what Robert Frost would do.......

Beautiful area. I think the show is a yearly thing with artist from around the nation. It wasn't at the university. I'm sure if I knew the name of it you'd go, "Oh yeah, that."

And M. Scott Peck, though he might be riding shotgun.

A) Find a quite place for nookie until the drunks are cleared
B) See A)
C) See A)
D) Diet - but it's probably too late :D

What ever you choose, have fun, stay safe.

Well how things change.

We will be taking the bike out for a run tomorrow morning. That should give me my riding fix for the day.

Going to and from the Fireworks will be done in the car. We will be parking a bit away from the street fair, in the hospital parking garage and walking the last mile.

AS for the nookie? Not till we get home unfortunately. Oh and I won't be drinking while we're out. (I'll save that for when we get home.)

Lesbiaphrodite, That kind of riding will take place tomorrow as well.:devil:
