Trying to keep the previous (NC-17) thread on topic.:)

Aside for Kids, (and Requirem for a Dream) I have to admit that I've never even heard of these movies. I'm just wondering what it is that makes them, in your opinion, important to watch.

Zandalee - Germany:16
Kika - France:16 / Germany:16 / Sweden:16
Killing Zoe - France:16 / Italy:14 / Netherlands:16
Kids - France:16 / Germany:16 / Norway:15 / Portugal:16 / Sweden:15
Requiem for a Dream - France:12 / Germany:16 / Japan:15
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! - Germany:16 / Sweden:15 (Spain:18 and it still was one of all-time biggest box-office sucesses)
L.I.E. - Germany:12 / Portugal:12
The Dreamers - France:12 / Italy:14 / Norway:15 / Sweden:15
Young Adam - France:12 / Germany:16 / Portugal:16
Bad Education - Canada:13+ (Québec) / Canada:14 (Nova Scotia) / France:12 / Italy:14 / Netherlands:12

At least "Kids", "Requiem for a Dream", and "Bad Education" should be seen by any normal early adolescent. And none of the other films would hurt them, either.

I just checked out Zandalee on Amazon- and added it to my wish list.

Anything with Nic Cage (that isn't 18mm) is worth watching... and watching...

One (Kids) is about teenager sexuality and AIDS, another (Requiem for a Dream) is not only a work of art, but it's also an important anti-drugs manifesto, and the other (Bad Education) is an important movie about child molestation, albeit wrapped in an Hitchcockian mystery cloak. Teenagers would certainly benefit greatly from watching any of them.

The others aren't, in my opinion, required views, but they're not NC-17 movies by a long shot. Some (The Dreamers, L.I.E., Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!) would make fine additions to any teenager's education in good movie watching. :)

I really enjoyed Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down ("!Atame!", the Spanish title is so much cleaner). Almovodar is a great filmmaker. Still, that one certainly isn't for kids or young teens. As wonderful as it is, the concepts are quite adult... it's a lot like Bad Education actually, but with more hetero sex.

I didn't care for The Dreamers. I found it rather pretentious. The female lead is stunning and spends a lot of time naked. There's a lot of sex and implied incest (although not shown, and very open to interpretation).

So in the case of both those films, it isn't simply nudity and "normal" sexuality that make them more for adults and late teens.
