Democritus caught Castor's attention just outside the door to his room.
"May I have a moment of your time, lord?"
"Of course, Democritus," Castor replied.
"Physician Ahkbar has been to examine Aaja. He is of the opinion that her wounds will not fester and has left medicines for her treatment. He advises that she may walk short distances, but only with her feet covered. She should be recovered well enough in a week. I have seen to her dinner. She seems... intelligent. I was uncertain what I might speak to her about."
Castor nodded. "That's understandable. I would consider it a favor if you and the staff would talk to her. She soaks up information as if she were a sponge. Answer her questions as best you can. And if you can find out more about her, that would help. Her primary task may be my comfort, but I'll not have her idle and scheming. We'll find tasks that fit her skills."
"Of a certainty, lord. I have a pair of slippers for her to wear," Democritus held up a pair of silken slippers and Castor took them.
Thanking Democritus, he walked into his room. Aaja, he saw, was crying. She looked up in surprise at his entrance and tried to wipe her eyes. He walked over and sat on down on the bed, pulling Aaja close to him.
"Tell me," he ordered.
