To Av or not to Av that is the question….

Inadvertently I have run an interesting experiment on myself. I always serf the boards with images turned off in IE. Not just avs from the control panel, but images from the browser. I have done this mainly for speed. As a result, something interesting happened. I didn’t see peoples av’s, I only saw the content of their posts. So when ever someone would spark my interest I would sometimes go right click on the broken image of there av, and tell the browser to show the picture. In this was I find I have begun to develop friendships with people based on there posts, not on sexy avs.

So after that long preface, the question is this. Do you contact/pursue friendships or other things with people on lit more on the basis of there posts, or there avs?

posts, to pursue someone over, what is in most cases a fake picture, is fairly degrading. I keep av's shut off, but thats because I gots a toddler that loves to ask questions rummaging around.

When I first joined Lit, all of the AVs just fascinated me to no end and not necessarily just the sexual ones. I mean all of them caught my attention for any number of reasons. I wondered why they chose the ones that they had chosen. Did they represent the member as they are or was it something they wished they were? Maybe it was chosen simply for artistic reasons?

Now, I just glance right over most of them, I'm so used to seeing them. I read only the posts and almost never glance over to see the AVs. Once in awhile a new one will catch my eye and I'll comment on it, expecially if it's someone that I already 'know'.

I pursue friendships based on posts not AVs although I have sent PMs commenting on ones that I really like. Personally, I'd gotten enough PMs saying basically "NICE TITS" sent to me (and that's why I changed mine for awhile) that I can't imagine doing that to someone else.

When I joined lit, we didn't have avs.

Now that they're there, the only purpose they serve to me is quickly identifying a poster when I skim and am too lazy to read.

posts. I see a lot of sexy pics every day, but just like in a relatioship, outer beauty can fade, but inner beauty lasts. For many years I was considered ugly and not worth talking to because of it, but I longed for someone to look past that to see the person I am inside. Since I have experienced it, I choose to look past an image to the person behind it.

While some avs are eye catching. I do not solely pm someone because of their avs. I enjoy reading what they have to say in their posts.
I also had my images turned off for the longest time. Recently I turned them on and some are very creative and fun.

Trish I love how candid you are in your posts. It is interesting to think about what people are trying to say with there avs. I find that alot of the older folks just don't seem to care much anymore, because they have learned the hard way to judge based on content of posts, not images.

Though something else is interesting, even if we persue based on posts, we ourselves still post appealing avs. hmmmm

Well said, so very well said. We all want to be appreciated for who we are I think. But to Trish's point, maybe av's can help represent a bit of who we are, what of our selves we are trying to express.

Or heck, maybe we are just trying to make people cum while they make funny faces at there computer. I over analyze....

Posts alone. I have never wanted to speak to someone due to an av, and have certainly never contacted them because of one. (hmm...maybe if we're already friends, I can't remember if I ever have or not) Heck, I seldom contact anyone, anyway.:D

Whatever talking I do to someone, I do on the boards. For my own reasons, I leave it up to them to contact me if they have something more to say.

You reminded me of how I am once someone does contact me and we start getting to know eachother. Because of my pic thread and av, they usually already know what I look like but eventually, they end up asking me if I'd like a pic of them. I often hesitate for the same reason as you...I like getting to know their mind first, and would rather not have the influence of their pic.

Having said that...sure, add an av of you, I want to know what you look like.:D

Well that picture is me, though maybe you meant you want an av of my face which I am waaaay to shy to do. :) As far as the substance of this post, I think we see eye to eye on avs. They won't usually tell you if this is a person you really want to know.

I only talk to beautiful people, so avatars are important for me to remain snobby.

ditto.

The av's are nice but I'd like to get to know people for who they are inside not what they look like. Looks aren't important to me as long as the person is honest and caring. You can get to know a person well by their posts i think. I wouls like to think that's how people judge me, by what's inside not my av.

You're pretty hot. Can we talk about sex? PM me.

:D

I shudder when I think about how many people are masturbating to my sexy av.

Your av reminds me too much or Lorena Bobbett.

And you're pretty crazy you know it? lol I don't pm first. I'm kinda shy.

Okay, then, could you post an av of you topless? I like to see what I'm getting into before the first PM.

Ditto - for the most part anyway. SOmetimes, if it is a real pic of the person I will look closer at it, or if it is something entertaining.
