I don't know if we have anyone on this forum from Poland. If so, I'd like to say on behalf of all of us: we can't imagine such a terrible, national tragedy. We're so sorry for your loss. :rose:

The plane crash that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski on Saturday gutted a nation's leadership and silenced some of the most potent human symbols of Poland's tragic and tumultuous history....Along with the president and his wife, the 97 dead included the army chief of staff, the head of the National Security Office, the national bank president, the deputy foreign minister, the deputy parliament speaker, the civil-rights commissioner and members of parliament.

I assumed, by the way, that everyone had heard of this as its been front-page and top-story news for the last few days. But in case someone has missed it, here's a good article on this devastating tragedy.

It was the worst disaster to befall Poland since the Second World War. The tragic loss of so many of the country's highest ranks is something that will leave Poland in a very bad way.

But if history teaches us anything, it is that Poland can recover from just about any catastrophe. Poles have done it before, many times. They will do it again.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning as most of press releases forgets to mention it, on the board of the plane, amongst the other, was Anna Walentynowicz. The 80-year-old was retired crane operator, the one helped to trigger the Gdansk strike of August 1980 - the moment that gave birth to the Solidarity movement - when she was sacked by the Communist management.
Also Ryszard Kaczorowski, Poland’s president-in-exile during the Communist years.

My heart truly bleeds and I never wanted to be back 'home' more than right now. :(
