Tips to prevent stolen pics?

A Lit member recently directed me to another site in which my pictures had been posted without my permission by someone I don't know under the guise that I was his wife.

I sent an email to the poster as well as to the admin of the site asking them to take down the pics, but I don't really know if there's much else I can do beyond that.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does anybody have any advice as to how I can prevent something like that from happening again?

That's horrible! I really don't have any advice for you at this point, but I'm glad someone pointed it out to you so that you could take action.

Well, here's a thought actually... You could make an email address just for this purpose, then put your email on each pic... Then if someone emails you from a site other than where you've legitimately posted your pics you'd know where to go to find the offender.

I've always enjoyed your pics and hate to see something bad happen from you sharing your amazing body with us.

I mean you could be considered everyone's "dream girl" but that does not excuse the behavior.

People are going to do what they are going to do....short of putting your trademark (Like Tall said) across your pics in places that can't be cropped (please don't do that for the rest of our sake)....I don't know what else you can do.

That's my 2 cents.

Thanks, you guys.

I got two emails this morning: one from the site admin telling me the photos were removed and the user banned, and one from the offender apologizing to me.

I have to say I was shocked, I really didn't expect to hear anything from either party. :)

TallAZ, the email addy is a good idea, but I wish there was something that didn't involve practically ruining the photo.

Well, as blunt as Matthew is , hes right to a point. I mean as much as we enjoy taking and posting the pics, there's really nothing stopping somebody from copying your pic and doing whatever they want with it.

I like the e-mail on the pic idea, thats a good idea but couldn't that person just as easily photo shop that address out of there?

Yeah, not posting pics in the first place would really be the obvious solution.

I just like posting naked pictures too damn much to stop. I guess I just want to have my cake and eat it too. The thing that really bugs me about it (more so than having my photos leave Lit) is having someone else taking credit for them.

Its a major problem right accross the net and very little you can do for free to stop it unfortunately.

HOWEVER the email across the main pic thing would help people see its your work. There are also programs which do cost a lot which can mark the picture for you and email you a list of sites using it but these are very expensive.

You should also remember that anyone using it at all weather you have it marked as copyright or not IS in breach of copyright and as such you could prosecute them for using them, this is why the site admin removed them asap.

Its all about weather you really worry about it or not Mrs Angel and I both decided that it culd happen so as such we will never show our faces unless it is to trusted people that way no harm can come of anyone else using them. ;)

if you need any help wartemarking you pics just let me know as its what I do on a semi pro level most of the day anyway :D

As a male, I don't think this is something I need to worry about. And if it does happen.......what a lovely compliment!

As far as watermarking the images, you can either use your email address (or web address if you have one), or mark them with the name of the site on which you're posting them - in this case, Literotica. (You could mark them "Posted on Literotica.com. Please do not repost" or something like that.)

I don't bother marking mine on this site, because, as Chrome said, I'm a male and it just doesn't happen that often. I do, however, watermark all the images on my regular web site with my copyright info and web address. The landscapes and such are too easily downloaded and stolen and if they were to be used by a third party for their own use, I could easily follow through with legal action. If they removed or cropped out the copyright tag it would be even easier to find that they were willfully violating copyright law.

Yes, I had a couple of photos up briefly which included my face, but after making this little discovery, I will never be posting pictures including my face again.

The watermarking is a good idea, but I don't know, I just feel like it takes something away from the photos and I'd rather not do it just yet. If I find out about something like this happening with my pictures again, I may change my mind about that.

Sadness, those face photos were quite enjoyable. But alas, copying is a problem, and I can't say that I have any better solutions than what has already been proposed. I imagine you might be able to make the watermark pretty unintrusive, if it really came down to it.

Well, I wouldn't bother if it could be easily cropped out or something.

If I did end up watermarking my images it would probably be in the form of fairly large transparent text across the center of my photos. The program I use (irfanview) won't do that I think, so I would have to purchase or download a program that would.

I think photoshopping a "Properly of Ms. Lorali82" onto all your pictures would be the best step. It isnt' much but it would come back to you if they were being used and you could do what you did before.

Someone on here told me that someone was showing my pics from somewhere else, but they couldn't tell me where they saw it (-.-) so I have no idea whether or not they were telling the truth. I'd second the photoshopping of your lit handle somewhere small, but even if you did that (unless you did it over the center of the pic), the thief could crop the pic to get rid of it. Unfortunately, I think the only certain way to prevent pics from being stolen is to not post them at all. =( It's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't kinda situations.

Loriali - Did you take your pictures down with your face in them then or did they stay up?

Yeah, that's pretty much what I figured. Either don't post them at all, or post them with text right across the good stuff. Very frustrating.

Those were photos that were only up for a limited time, and I had taken them down long before I made this discovery. However, in light of this incident I highly doubt I'll ever post a photo of myself including my face--even for a short amount of time--again.

you can attach copyright info right into the header of the picture, so it will never be seen ON but can be veiwed from the header
its easy in XP
rightclick
properties
summary

or you can do it right in photoshop or GIMP or any other compentant image editor

and I'm appearntly supposed to tell you something about a star on the chest
or something like that

Those properties are in the IPTC information and while they can be useful for stock photo agencies and photographers looking to tag their images to prevent copyright theft, they can be just as easily stripped out by applications designed to do this to batches of files.

The trouble is, most of the kind of theft that happens to pictures found on this site is by regular people copying the images and using them as their own, or by web site operators who steal the images and load them onto sites that make all sorts of content available for a fee (or sometimes free). The IPTC tags aren't clearly visible unless you know how to view them, so they aren't really a deterrent to the average thief.

Once again, we're back to the choice or posting a watermark across the useable parts of the image or not posting at all.

Personally, I think a watermark across the middle of the image is fine as long as it's "ghosted" with an opacity of about ten to twenty percent. That makes it barely visible and still clear enough that it's nearly impossible to remove. While some really bored image editing pro could probably do a good job clearing away the watermark, it would take so long and be so painful that the results wouldn't be worth it.

This image has a 15% opacity watermark.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm talking about.

Except your example really does bring to light how distracting something like a watermark can be even if it is mostly transparent. Hate.

I think I'll probably just continue to post my pictures unmarked and deal with the adverse consequences of having them stolen should it happen again.

I've seen some posts in the GB in which somebody attempts to post an image and it ends up being replaced with "This image was stolen from so-and-so.com." That's awesome, I wish I could do that.
