Re: this might help....

I quit on January 1st, this year...at 11:36 pm...LOL I remember exactly! I cut up drinking straws the same size as a ciggie..and just packed them around with me everywhere! this helped greatly with the hand to mouth habit. I do feel so much better now...I still miss it, but I know I can live with them. GOOD LUCK!
Great tip! I think I might cut some up tonight to take to work with me to help me get through tomorrow.

Thanks Flirty!

Try making those last 5 a day hard to get to.

1. Don't keep them near you.

2. Don't keep them all in one place.

3. Make them hard to get to by putting them in places that you have to walk to or open multible items to get one.

4. Let everyone know your trying to quit and have them distract you when you go after one.

5. When you feel the craving for one make yourself wait another half hour before you go to get it. Many cravings die in half an hour.

6. EAt when you get a craving but eat things like carrot sticks or apples. Any fruit or veggie that crunches and needs lots of chewing.

7. Look for the things that trigger your cravings. Like one with your morning coffee or one after dinner, and exchange rutines until you break that habbit. Such as one with morning coffe, fine have a cup of tea. Still good caffene but fixed different and tastes different. Breaks the rutine.

There are a lot of things that can be done and not all of them have to be big things. Many times it's the little things that matter.

I gave up smoking just over 20 years ago. At the time I was smoking almost 5 packs a day. I quit cold turkey and may I say it was the hardest thing I've ever done. And there's no telling how long the craving will last. Different people have different reactions. It may only be a day and it may be weeks to get past them or anything inbetween. Just hang in there and don't give up hope. You will win this one because there is more then yourself counting on you.
1.I panic when theirnot close to me.
2.I have to not only have them but panic if there isn't a full pack here.

KIKI I was going to answer each in turn but had to have a smoke
ONLY KIDDING.
I have smoked for over 30 years & HATE IT every time I light up BUT I'm hooked as the logest I've been with out a ciggy is 8 days & 10 days but both times I was in a coma.
I really do hate the fucking things because of my inability to quit not to mention how rotten they are for you/me & have tried ALL the things to quit.NOTHING works...GRRRRRR

I hate the smell, taste & most of ALL the cost.......

When I started it was a pack of 10 plus matches for 20cents now packs are over $10.

Ok girl, if it was 22 hours then, you're now officially allowed to count in days....it gets easier and you'll do great! Keep up the good work, you know we're all here for you, cheering you on!http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/w/thumbs.gif

Because of the battles I've had trying to quit over the years I reallt do admire the ppl who have beaten their adictions.

Am I just weak because I can't quit ????

Gil, I dont think you are weak. I dont think I would have quit if it wasnt for the fact I was pregnant. I think part of it is believing that you can, that you will, and that they dont have to be a part of your everyday routine. I have only smoked for 12 years so I can just imagine how hard it is to quit after many more. I think I just knew I was going to do it, 'cause I had to. This weird calm came over me about it, very different from all of the other times I have tried. I just knew I could quit and I was going to.

Its been 1 day, 22 hours, and 51 minutes since I have had a whole cigarette. I did take 2 drags off my brother's cigarette yesterday, so it was a minor setback...but Im not worried. I feel successful this time.

Darlin, there's nothing weak about you....if you haven't quit yet, you just don't really want to. It's all psychological:kiss:

I know darlin...I know......wish I could help...but like I said...weakness has nothing to do with it baby...nothing at all...you'll eventually do it. Hey, I was smoking 2 packs a day, sometimes close to 3...I quit cold turkey and never looked back...and God knows, I'm not the most strong willed person in the world!;)

*I got your message darlin...I'm answering it soon, promise!*

ok well, I took a few steps back tonight...after 2 days of being smoke free, I went to a barbeque this afternoon/tonight. All my smoker friends around me.... I ended up having 3 -- Im disappointed and now I have to start my counter over! But Im not too upset, I know it was just a minor setback.

Social situations are going to be the roughest for me. I really have made more progress over the past few days, so I know I can do this.

So as of now I am 1 hour and 21 minutes smoke free again. *sigh* (I really hated having to start it over.) :(

NAUGHTYGIRL......It's so hard to quit in an enviroment where the temptation is limited let alone in a place where friends & others are smoking.

YOU GO GIRL.....You,your baby & family will all benifit in the long run.

I always found it easier to sniff at the second hand smoke around me...as if that's any help!:D But like I said...5 years and counting! You'll get there!:rose:
