I am a smoker too, wish I could quit but I've tried it all, the gum, patch, nothing works for me, I've been told to just smoke the last one I have and force myself not to buy anymore, hav'nt been able to do that yet, I wish you well in your effort though. :)

Thank you for the support barn. :rose: I appreciate it. This is so hard. Maybe this thread will benefit you and the other smokers out there who want to give up this awful addiction.

I'd love to be able to put it behind me, aside from the health risks it's over 100 bucks a month I could spend on something else! :)

NG..........they make a filter system..........which reduces the nic you recieve........one filter per pack......and grad. steps it down........over a period of about 5 weeks..........worked for me once

WCM

*waving to WCM*....good to see you still around

NG, i stopped a month ago.......had to spend a week with my kids 24/7 and i will not smoke infront of them......first three days was a total bitch......but now, no big deal

good luck, but i am suprised that you want them.....i was so sick, nothing look, tasted or sounded good to me for the full 13 weeks.

i need to also quit. maybe we should use this as a support thread for that very reason.

what about real licorice and gum? plus people that have successfully quit has said that you need to find something to keep your hands busy.

*Rises from her chair in the back row*

"Hi, I'm Arden, and I'm a longtime nicotine addict. Mind if I drop in now and then? Tried the patches, but they made me wired! Gum didn't work, but I found that it is good for long haul airline flights."

:)

has anyone ever tried the licorice thing?

*waves at Arden* me too, honey, me too.

barn also has a point in the cost is getting out of hand. maybe their way of trying to get us all to quit.

I've never heard of the licorice thing, but I read once that too much licorice in it's natural state might be toxic.

What pisses me off is that all of the taxes which raise cigarette prices so high seem politically biased. I don't see them levying outrageous taxes on liquor. Politicians like their liquor, but punish those who smoke because it's a politically correct stance. Damn do-gooders. I want to quit... why not provide free smoking cessation programs instead of breaking us financially?

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

I havent really had any morning sickness yet. One day of a bit of it but thats all. Im only 6 weeks along, I want to be cigarette free by the time I hit 8 weeks. Grrrr...

Cold turkey isnt working for me. I freak out and end up giving up. But I have drastically cut down from a pack a day to about 6 or 7 now....would like to do better.

Hey this a great thread.
Just recently quit smoking . . .again.
Couldn't do the patch or the gum for medical reasons.
Dr. gave me prescription for Zyban. Works wonders. None of the physical symptoms of craving. First time i went a long time without a smoke i didn't crave at all.
I still think about it quite a bit and would love one, but the cravings are gone.
Great idea for support group.

I quit both times when i was pregnant.
It sucked. It sounds trite, but just remember why you are doing it and don't start again after like i did twice.

Hi I just got back and spotted this thread...

Quitting is very hard to some but I have done so now for 6 yrs.....

I taste things better and no I didn't gain weight...
I have better skin and hair....
I don't stink...*sorry but it does...*
I don't have yellow fingers or teeth....*not that I did but could of*
I feel better and I hopefully will live longer....

Buttttt as I said it could be hell to some... I went cold turkey...took my pack and threw it out... I did go out and buy another one but I never opened it.

I changed my ways....I smoked on the phone so I doodled instead..
I smoked after a meal so I got up right away and did the dishes...
I smoked in the car so I cleaned out the ashtray and tapped on the steering wheel....

Now that worked for me and your not me...

I also, and this was the most important part.....looked into my son's eyes and said what would I do without him???? ....what will he do without me???? I have no desire to go back ever.......

Good Luck to you all... :rose: :)

I gave up one night ... Just stopped, It was hard, I just said "enough is enough" I know this is not much help, It did work for me... 1985 I stopped...
