Professor Dean Fraser looked up and his heart began beating faster as his long time assistant, Elsa Ramos, sauntered into the sealed testing room. It wasn't really a long time, a matter of six months, but in that time he had developed a crush on her that just wouldn't go away. He had never said anything to her or given any indication as to how he felt but he sensed that she somehow knew as she was always giving out innuendoes like when they finished for the day she would say 'Let's put this baby to bed shall we? It was nothing in itself but it was enough to get his blood rushing downstairs and get his imagination working overtime.
"You're late,,,,,,,,,,,,,, again." he snapped, she was only two minutes late but he needed to say something, "When we get this going I can stick you inside and send you back fifteen minutes in time so you can sort yourself out and get here on time."
He turned back to the machine they were working on for the defence department, they wanted a machine that could transmit people, equipment, weapons, anything back in time so that they were never taken by surprise even if it had already happened they could go back and remedy the situation.
This didn't sit comfortably with Dean, as far as he was concerned what was in the past was in the past and shouldn't be altered, but he and Ashley were under contract and had to do as they were told.
"I think we're ready for a test run so stand over by the wall while I line the machine up and then while it's calculating I'll join you."
He set the dials for yesterday and switched the machine on and joined Ashley by the wall. The machine suddenly burst into life and it seemed they were floating. To Dean it seemed something was wrong, it was taking too long they should have been transported back in a matter of seconds but it was now five minutes, suddenly they had their feet back on the ground but they were no longer in the lab, they had no idea where they were or what time it was.
"OH SHIT!" He exclaimed.
