I enjoy the stories I write, I enjoy writing them, I like to work with my characters, and learning from them, grow with them, and hopefully be a better writer...But Damn it is time consuming as hell!
I sit at my desk and three hours are gone...just slipped past me..Where the hell does it go?
My wife is here with me, usually, for most of the day, and we talk and do a few things and whatever but...I find it difficult to write if there is something going on, someone here...

I absolutely cannot write distracted. No one talking to me, no TV or music, even in the background. I need peace and uninterrupted quiet.

Which, as anyone with a family can tell you, is hard to find 😆

I write all my stuff on my phone. Eight or nine minutes here and there when I can get it, and then at night when that horrid sleep thing is supposed to happen (lol as if).

I'm just the opposite. Quiet is disruptive for me. Worse is any sudden noise in the quiet.

I also do better using my headset instead of speakers, as I get the music without any other distractions.

What kinds of music do you listen to when you write? I find anything with lyrics distracting, as well as anything too hard or complex. Soft jazz, baroque, I can write to those. Inquiring minds and all that... :)
Jazz for romance, speed metal for dubcon, and indigenous fusion for sci-fi.

I listen to horror, sci-fi, and other genre mixes on YouTube. Also, I listen to my publisher's wife's YouTube channel, which features AI-generated music (that's actually not bad). If you have a hang-up about that, don't go there :). I can understand if people do. She is musical and quite artsy at times. I also listen to movie music on SiriusXM. Don't listen to much with singing, though enjoy voices used as instruments.

I mostly listen to classic rock, but some newer stuff. When a song aligns with my writing mode, I can listen to it over and over again while I write. I know at one point while I was writing my novel this summer I listened to Slow It Down by the Lumineers for like two and half hours straight, just repeating it over and over again.

I can't listen to something I don't know, but familiar music is the right level to keep part of my brain occupied, so the rest of me can focus on writing.

I've been listening to a lot of synthwave when I'm writing.
