I've said it before and time to say it again. Drain the cities. $1M for a 900 sq ft studio can get you 5 acres and a homestead and a retirement account.

Grow some food.

Raise some chickens.

We are in the middle of making that move right now

I totally agree. Just sold our house and bought a bunch of land in a remote area. Living off he grid seems like a wonderful plan. Good timing too. Not much of an issue to practice social distancing if the next neighbor is 5 miles away.:)

You couldn't survive out of your tiny bubble, dipshit.

All y’all big city folk stay in the city. It’s dangerous out in the heartland.

Land is cheap until more people buy it. The next expense is the several automobiles, the daily driver, the work truck, and maybe more backups, for driving heartland distances.

The suburban yards of grass that costs money to mow may get some new edible gardens.

It’s a very doable idea and socially beneficial if targeted on geographic areas ripe to be flipped politically and socially.

A State like Wyoming, with the population of a small suburb could be flipped in a short period of time through immigration from the coasts.

The influx of people with educations, cash and creativity would put the heart back in the Heartland.

There's a lotta land here, but very little is private. So, it's all spendy stuff.

What? You don't need anymore vehicles than you would in a city. The "work truck" IS a daily driver. Heartland distances? Yes, it's a 600 mile trek to work... Uphill both ways.

I bet I have more millionaire neighbors than you do.

And worry about snakes, crazy hillbillies, ignorant Trumpers, and stuff?

No thanks, sticking to the suburbs, don't like big cities, either.

Educations?

So... Ruin the countryside by turning it into extended suburbia? No, city folks, stay where you are. The presence of bugs and absence of Starbucks will only distress you.

Yeah, and there is lots of dangerous stuff out here in rural areas. I've had four encounters with rattlesnakes in tall weeds during the last week.

Yeah, stay in your cities. Moving would not be as idyllic as an episode of Green Acres.

Been doing that for years. Just wait until you experience the joys of a septic tank and well water. Or the need for a life flight to the hospital if shit goes really south. Rural hospitals are the last place you want to go if you need medical care, and you will need it at some point.

Then there's the crime and the drug use.

And people out in the country have guns. You don't want to be around people with guns. That's even more distressing than being without Grub Hub delivery.

Stay where you belong, in the city. Where it's "safe".

The countryside is full of shotguns, and in October you hear them popping for hours. City folks will probably never have heard gunshot outside of the cinema

City folks brought electricity to rural areas. I for one think that was a terrible mistake. I say let their infrastructure be like their hospitals - backward and decrepit.

At least, in the UK, you can easily use suppressors on shotguns.

No way

The country is creepy AF, not to mention the Hill People
