Tib's OOC Christmas Party

Offering refills on eggnog...

I move through the room and plop down next to VL. "Think we're gonna make some Christmas cookies? I could make mommy's stollen now that I've got that cookbook again."

"Hi, Brat... Faith. Long time. Welcome, Exosus."

Oh, and in the meantime, I would like to share this recipe:

BREAD STUFFING WITH MUSHROOMS AND BACON
  • 1 1/4 pounds sourdough bread, crusts trimmed, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 12 cups)
  • 3/4 pound bacon (about 12 slices... I use slab bacon), cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 3 cups chopped leeks (white and pale green parts only; about 2 medium)
  • 3 cups chopped celery
  • 1 pound mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons dried sage leaves
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 1/2 cups (or more) canned low-salt chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Preheat oven to 325°F. Spread bread cubes on 2 baking sheets. Bake until bread cubes are dry and crisp, stirring occasionally, about 25 minutes. Transfer bread to large bowl.

Sauté bacon in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat until brown and crisp. Using slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towels and drain. Pour off all but 1/4 cup drippings from skillet. Add chopped leeks and celery to skillet and sauté until tender and beginning to brown, about 10 minutes. Add mushrooms, sage, thyme, salt and pepper and sauté until tender, about 10 minutes. Pour mushroom mixture over bread cubes. Add bacon and toss to blend. Mix in 2 cups broth. (Stuffing can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish. Beat eggs and baking powder in small bowl to blend. Mix eggs into stuffing; moisten stuffing with more broth if stuffing is dry. Transfer to prepared baking dish. Bake stuffing until cooked through and golden brown on top, about 1 hour.

Serves 12.

It might 'sound' complicated, but it's very easy to make and quite good. Try it?

Knocking at the door....

"Hey you guy's it's freezing out here!"

Ari stomps the snow off his big galoshes and hopes there is a warm fire and good company inside.

I run to the door.

"Ari! It's wonderful to see you. Come in before you catch your death of a cold."

I take his coat and I give him a warm hug that lingers.

"Tibvo is occupied at the moment, so can I get you some eggnog. I am the caterer of this little soiree. Did you bring a dish to pass?"

I lead him into the room which slowly beginning to fill up.

Honey! how nice to see you!
Here, I managed to bring some red curry chicken. Spicey and colorfull don't you think?
Rice wine too. Needs to be heated though.

A warm kiss on the cheek for the Bee and I enter the house and see good friends all about.

Season's Greetings everybody!
Tib, Marvel everything looks just great!

They all watch him dripping snow on the carpet

Looking over at VL, I lean toward her and whisper...

"There's a man dripping on our carpet." I slip my glasses on to take a closer look. "Ariosto! Come with me... we'll get you dried off. You are just dripping," I say, stating the obvious to cover up the fact that I have no idea what I will offer him to wear while his clothes dry.

Shrugging, I smile my sunniest smile and urge him to hurry along. "Excuse me everyone... Be right back.

"Mmm..."

I walk towards the kitchen, nodding and smiling along the way.

"Red curry chicken. I just love that man. Let's see, I still need to get dishes from Exosus, Faith, and The Brat. Whenever you have time, guys."

I open the oven to check on my perfect Christmas ham. Turning around, I run straight into Tibvo.

"Only a turkey like you would think this was a bird, Tib." I hit him over the head with an oven mitt to emphasize the point.

smiles at Honey

Tib already took my croquettes m'dear. Sadly, I did not bring anything else.

I followed Honey_B into The Kitchen with my Dish for the Christmas Party and I was in time to witnessed her hitting tib over the head with an oven mitt!

I tried to stop or stiffle my giggles but it was a lost cause so I just laughed really hard at the look on tib's face!

Oi...

"Watch it!" I shout out, "That mitt is a lethal weapon."

I see that Brat is laughing at me.

"I don't know. I'm assaulted in my own home and you all you do is laugh!" Then going over to her, I give her a big hug. "I'm really glad that you came though."

Now turning to Honey.

"Ham? I thought we were having turkey. I supposed that is the traditional grub for Christmas in America?"

Still would like some turkey for me though! I think to myself gloomily.

Seeing Honey starting to wave her crop around, I decide to vacate the kitchen.

Besides, I better get out before she notices that some of her mince pies have been eaten!

Taking Brat with me, I go back into the Living Room and seeing VeiledLady sitting on her own, introduce them to each other.

"You okay?" I ask VeiledLady.

She smiles and nods and then starts chatting to Brat.

Looking over at the door, I see Ari standing there shivering.

"Bloody hell, Ari. Is it snowing that hard out there?" I say to him, shaking his very cold hand.

He nods and tells me that Marvel is looking after him.

Going over to the window, I see that not only is the snow falling more heavily, but that the wind has picked up.

Remembering what the weather forecast said, I just hope that the others can make it.

"Right, everyone! Who wants another round of eggnog?"

In the background, my stereo is playing Rocking Round the Christmas Tree...

*rap rap rap*

Helllllloooooooooooooo?

Hellllloooooooooooooo?

Is the party still going on?

I know I'm late.. in oh so many ways.. !!!!

I need to go collect Tex.. he said he would escort me to your party Tibvo.. but I just wanted to stop by tonight and find out if you needed anything.

We could stop by the store and bring whatever goodies or special things you might need.. no need to come out in the snow if I'm already all bundled up :)

I was thinking of making my raised yeast almond snail.. its more than yummy and I make it every Christmas. It goes very well with Stollen..

Anyway. I'll take your list with me Tib..if you want :D

Yahoo! More guests...

Opening the door, I give Cutie a hug, almost getting frozen in the falling snow in the process.

"Glad you and Tex can make it." I smile, my teeth chattering as I dive back inside.

"Your snail sounds great (never had it before). All you need is a couple of presents for the tree and could you get some more eggnog? Just in case we run out." I hand her some money.

"Okay! See you later." she beams and I quickly close the door and get back into the warm.

Now have we got any Stollen?...

Sorry, got to go!

Taking my last mouthful of eggnog (and delicious too), I get up.

"Sorry, Tib. Have to dash. Got an errand to do. I'll try to be back."

"Sorry to hear that!" says Tib as I put on my scarf and coat. "Thanks for popping in. Merry Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas, everyone!"

Sadly, I leave the warmth of the cosy house and go into the harsh cold outside.

Merry Christmas, GreenSleeves!

Sorry to see a guest go, I go and continue to serve drinks to my guests as I listen to Slade's christmas hit...

Since you are reading this post, why not drop in for a glass of eggnog?

All you need is to bring a present (for a fellow guest) and an item of food.

At the moment, we are just having drinks and waiting for everyone to turn up.

On Saturday, 8th, we are starting our Christmas Dinner courtesy of Honey and on the 15th, (midnight Christmas morning Lit time) we are going to sit around the tree and open our presents.

I look forward to seeing you.

Tib.

I peek out of the kitchen and wave madly at Lillie.

"Tibvo, the only stollen we have is the stolen mince pie. I'm holding you responsible. Stay there while I find my crop!"

I duck back in the kitchen to enjoy a glass of eggnog while Tibvo panics.

"Watch it!" I shout out, "That mitt is a lethal weapon."

Tib if you even had a Turkey Bakng in your oven I would brain you with it!

As I say Hello to VeiledLady and start talking to her she kind of reminded me of my Old Friend Marilene The Exotic Dancer!

"Please excuse me for a minute VeiledLady but I have to give Honey_B my Dish for the Party!"

Sitting at the bottom of the stairs...

I tuck into my little horde of mince pies.

I just love mince pies!

Chomp!

Chew!

Munch!

I can hardly see...

I know that the Forecast said it was going to get worst but I didn't expect to be a blizzard!

Finally reaching the front door, I knock, hoping someone will hear me.

A moment later, the door opens and someone I instinctively know is standing there, mouth full of mince pie, eyes bulging.

"What are you doing here?" he asks...

Handing a platter to Miss Bee....

Here you go Honey... A little something that goes over really big at my house...

Spinach Balls:
2 boxes frozen Spinach (cooked and drained dry)
1 small bag Pepperidge Farm Herb stuffing
2 large onions chopped fine
6 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese, grated
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1Tbsp. accent
1 Tbsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp thyme
3/4 butter, melted

Mix together: shape into small balls. place on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Make 100 balls (These may be frozen when raw and used later) Even spinach haters will love these. My kids fight over these...lol

Smiling, I send warm greetings to Maid and Exosus....

"So Tibvo, now that I've been a really good girl... do I get a shot at that lap...."

Hey...

"Won't mine do?" I ask my favourite waitress. Grinning at Faith's look of surprise as I come into the room...

Hearing a voice out of the past....

"JEHONAX!!!!"

Throwing myself into his arms.... The best lap of all.... my first...

"Any time, any place"

What a welcome...

"Long time no see." I grin at her.

Taking off my coat and scarf, I sit down. Immediately, Faith is on my lap.

I have missed this!

I look bemused at Tib's look of disapproval.

"Oh lighten up, Tib. I told you that him at the keyboard has allowed me this concession. Now can this lovely young lady and I have a eggnog each?"

We both laugh as Tibvo goes off to get the drinks, mumbling as he does so...

Hmmmm...

I'm not happy that he's turned up.

Him at the keyboard isn't usually so generous.

What is he up to?

Besides, Faith's meant to sit on my lap. :(

Anyway, I get both of them an eggnog and then to cheer myself up, I nip into the kitchen to steal another mince pie...

Ari looks up from his post by the fire and sees all the faces old and new. Jehanox and Brat are here, Faith and Honey and Maid, new people he's never seen...The place seems to glow.

Standing up, nearly dry, he raises his eggnog in a toast!

To all the great people at LIT!...We like any family have our ups and downs but during this season of the year we put away our diferences and remember the good times we've had and the things that brought us all together!
Tib thank's for a wonderful idea...Salud!
