As per my last thread, I have pleaded guilty of insulting the BB members at Literotica.
How many months should I have my posting privileges remove or should I be banished completely?
You decide.
Laurel can stand as judge and I will abide by the average term or if banishment is the majorities decision.

I solemnly swear on the flag and on the bible that I, THX1138, will accept my punishment as set forth.

Now you can vote

I forgive you. Your sanity may occassionally come into question... but personally, I forgive you.

Dont be so dramatic

Just apologize and move on. Many have done far worse than you and all is okay for them now. So stay, enjoy and just chill out.

I don't think you even need to apologize...why? You said what is on your mind...you did exactly what you should have done.

But if you really want to be punished.... :D

Laurel can stand as judge

Nah, I'll pass. How about all just move along to better things? You said your piece, others expressed their opinions, and the issue (whatever it was) is talked to death. No harm, no foul. Live and let live. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. And a watched pot never boils.

How about forty lashes with a feather? That usually straightens me out (depending on where it's applied)! ;)

I'm Not Ostracized -- thanks for cutting me a bit of slack everyone!

Looks like I can say here! (and yes I am not drunk now)

On a more serious note.

Does anyone feel that the authors on this site do not get enough exposure for the work that they do.

Pointing out that the story feedback area is hardly ever used compared to the general BB area.

Are these people's efforts not appreciated?

What do all the authors feel about this concern?

This whole question came up after I read somewhere that Whispersecret rightfully analyzed what happens to a story if it does not make it into the top 20. It drops into the basement and few are ever discussed again.

I do spend time reading thought that basement myself, and have found several very good works that I wonder if there were votes for and comments about.

My post on the matter was a bit shity and I have toasted my credibility so I wonder if this concern will every be address. (This is not meant to piss off the lady again, I'm keeping clear of her now I'm on the darkside.)

Isabella, Hecate .... I think I know where you can find at least one guy here who is 'sub'.

Relax THX, if your not dead it can be fixed.

My own work is in the basement, but when it is first posted I can generally count on two emails praising it. I haven't gotten any "I hate your crap!" emails.

I guess that's thanks enough. :)

THX1138, the Madam has said I don't know how many times she is well aware of the problem and is going to fix it. That's good enough for me. Anybody remember the 500 errors? Well, this soon will be a distant memory just like that.

Jesus fucking Christ, you wouldn't fucking believe how much I paid in taxes last year. I wish the fucking government would jump as fast as Laurel does. Give the girl a fucking break. She busts her balls for all of us.

Most of the time readers don't seem to be aware of the Board. I wasn't for quite some time. It never occurred to me that there might be other avenues of giving feedback, other than via email.

It would be wonderful to get some honest feedback on the Story board.

Perhaps Laurel could introduce a link to that board near the voting section or the title? Something like "Post your feedback on this story to the Forum, click here." or whatever. That way more people would become aware that they can say GOOD JOB!! or YOU FREAKIN SUCK DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB!! without having to take the time and effort to email the author.

I like the emails, Muffin!

Actually, I like sending an email to the author of a story I particularly like better than voting. I vote, too, but I think a really great story deserves more.

Anyway, it is a day in the country when I can open my email and find an email, from a person, praising my stuff rather than unmitigated spam. I thought others felt the same.

I LOVE EMAIL!!!!!!

I feel exactly that way too lovely Lady. I adore the emails I get in my inbox. Even the ones offering to exchange phone sex.

There are some people who just don't feel that comfortable emailing someone they don't know. They prefer to remain anonymous in some way. I would like to hear from them too. I have met one or two of them in the chatroom on the site. I get a "great story, would have emailed you, but..."

They just didn't know about the forum here.

Well, I did get a few queries about my, er, preferences after Bindings.

I'm really wondering what's going to turn up in the inbox after Means to An End posts. ;-)

Thinking about all this again

Now that's punishment… I'm a sub! Auugh no!

Creamlady. Be honest how many hours did you invest in writing your story and does it not bother you a little that you receive very little feedback on it? As a reader, (I couldn’t write if I tried), I would like to see what others say about your work. Those two letters are important to you and possibly everyone else. I will read your story and try and post something on it. I'm a crappy critic and my writing skills are poor to zero.

Possible that should be my fine, two months as a critic!

Deb, maybe she needs help. I would not call the lack of feedback avenues a problem, just something that needs to be added. At the risk of getting into shit again, once more I point out that the improvements are not needed on the BB but on the story side of the site. Can anyone help the kind lady? Also I did not understand the web site was only run by only two people. I wrongful assumed there was a back room full of programmers at work with some profit scheme playing out.

The authors do make the web site. They deserve the best hard work or no hard work on the part of the web site operators. The total amount of effort to write all the stories here is astounding. The contributing authors have given thousands and thousands of hours of their time free to build the story foundation libraries. It might seem like I’m being unappreciative, but I’m not, I’m just pointing out what I think needs to be done.

It means something to me that I was not banished when everyone had the chance. It also makes a good statement about all of you.

THX1138 - Just to clarify things, I'm not pissed at you or anything. It's just that I am a human being. I am totally accepting of constructive criticism, but don't respond well to personal insults. If you want your comments to be respected, it's generally a good idea to respect the person to whom you direct them. You're not on my "dark side" (you'd have to do much more than that, I'm afraid), but it's unfair to jump on my case and then expect me to take it because I run the site. I'm willing to answer any constructive criticism offer. This site has grown largely due to input from writers and readers given on this Bulletin Board. However, calling me stupid isn't constructive (true or not, lol), and doesn't help to improve the site one iota.

As far as feedback goes...Some writers get a great deal of feedback, while others get none. It's fairly random. A story is read by the most people when it is New - its first 7 days on the site. Once a story is off the New page, it goes to our archives, where it will be read but not as often. Writers who submit regularly tell me they tend to get more feedback on their older stories, because readers will enjoy the new story and will check their author page for more.

We're working on a script that is the first step in fully integrating the site, the BB, the chat, the Literotica email, etc. One of the goals of this dauntingly huge project is to increase reader feedback by making it easier for readers to leave feedback. The first step in this will be to add a link after every story connecting the reader with the Story Feedback section. We have plans in the works to encourage voting as well - how effective these plans will be remains to be seen.

We get tens of thousands of visitors a day, but there's only 3000+ registered BB users, and maybe one or two posts a day in the Story Feedback arena. The percentage who even vote for stories is shockingly low. We do our best to make all channels open to readers. We post the author's email address. We added voting over a year ago, so that all readers would have to do is click a button to register their opinion. We established a forum in which authors could solicit comments. We set up a Volunteer Editor program so that writers could get detailed critiques of their works - a program which is, to my knowledge, unique to our site. But when it comes down to it, neither Manu nor I can control what the readers do or do not do.

As much as I would like to, I cannot reach through the monitor and twist a reader's ear until they send an author feedback. The bottom line is this: people come to Literotica to relax - to read stories, look at the amateur pics, to chat, to enjoy the BB... They don't come here thinking to themselves "I'm going to rate every story I see, and write up a detailed analysis of my opinions and send it to the writer". It's more like, "I'm off work, and I just want to relax and unwind". I've compared our voting averages with other sites around our size and found them to be standard. While I hope to raise that average through all of the changes we have planned, the fight against reader apathy is an uphill battle.

Ask yourself: do you vote on every story you read? Do you regularly send comments to authors? Do you post often in the Story Feedback section? For most of us, the answer will be "no" to at least one of these questions, if not more. Then ask yourself: what would encourage me to do vote more often, to respond to authors, to post in the Story Feedback forum? (Short of cash or gifts, lol.) Think long and hard, and please give me your suggestions here. Because we are only two people, and we don't have the monopoly on good ideas. :)

I hear you, Laurel.

I think you are a good dude and your words make sense. Just to clear the air a little I did not call you stupid or any names at anytime. I did push you to post the top twenty statistics and that did get you a little short with me, understandably. My other post I mentioned <you should get your ass in gear a fix the story section and dump the BB>. That was a poor choice of words on my part and I do apologies. Being I was in a bit of a bad mood that day. Because I have no talent to write, I guess greatly respect the writers here and it seemed that everyone was ignoring them. Your question to me about if I comment hits home and I became aware I was being a hypocrite with my post to creamlady. I only posted about whispersecret’s and rolly’s stories. Maybe I should post some story reviews and try and help out here instead of flinging crap at everyone.
Auu, err, well, anyway, if it helps, thanks, Laurel. Thanks for the chat and the words and the time. I will think about what you said.
