My BF has this thumb twitch that showed up the other day when he was on the computer. He said his elbow hurt because of how he was sitting. Since he has google as his homepage he likes to research every illness he has and that causes him to worry. I'm just wondering if anyone eles has had a thumb twitch that was nothing and went away. We went to the clinic yesterday and the doc said nothing was wrong. I think it's just a pinched nerve or a nutritional deficiency (sp), and maybe stress related. I just want him to calm down so he can relax.

Does he use his computer a lot? If he presses hard on the side of his elbow joint does he get a sharp pain? I have something similar a while back and it was minor tendinitis, scar tissue built up along my elbow. It was caused by using my mouse so much. To fix this my doctor did a little bit of DEEP massage to break up that scar tissue and it went away. You really have to get in there deep though. The procedure was excrutiating, but I felt better almost instantly after we were done.

If it keeps happening, I'd go get a second opinion. No twitching is normal.

I think it might be a slight nerve problem due to how he sits. Have him rest his arms and hands while using the computer by putting the key board in his lap to type.

I had a similar problem awhile back in my hand. There was a constant pain in one of my fingers. I changes the position I sat at the computer and started typing with the keyboard in my lap. My finger was better in a month.

Hope it gets better for him. :rose:

i can't really offer you any advice other than to say that i have muscle twitches from time to time as well. they come and go in various parts of my body.

the fact is that it really could be anything. TBK and CG both have valid ideas regarding this. i'd be inclined to suggest seeing a doctor about it though. no matter how minor it seems it COULD be a sign of something very significant. for example, i remember many years ago that i had an eyeball/eyelid flutter. it would just tremble for a few seconds every now and again. as it turned out it was a blood pressure thing (probably because i was HUGE then).

so... not to be an alarmist or anything but it never hurts to check with a physician on these things. doctors are far happier (and effective) when they can discuss things with you BEFORE they become an actual problem.

Thanks ya'll, He called another doctor and he also said it wasn't something to worry about.
