The wife of a good friend of mine (and a pretty good friend in her own right) is dying. It's been going on for a long time but I learned today that she has started hospice care and doesn't have much time left.

I'm in a strange place about this. I say they are good friends but the reality is that they are good friends from long ago that live far away that I had lost touch with. I still consider them good friends, and him one of my best friends even though we've lost touch, I don't know if that really makes any sense. Anyway, he got back in touch with me about a year ago to let me know about his wife's illness. We've been in better touch since then but only over email. I haven't been to see them, they're pretty far and I have young kids and don't want to be away from them. But now I'm regretting that. Maybe I'll get down there for the funeral.
