Thought I'd introduce myself

I've been writing stories here for about a year, mainly to get feedback for other non erotic stories I am also writing. I know it sounds crazy, but erotic stories are utilitatarian in nature, so people have a natural desire to read them as opposed to, say an essay on my Aunt Pat's garden.

Anyway, I thought I might drop a note and see why it is everyone else writes on this site. A dirty mnd is a given, what are your other motivations?

Motivations and Inspirations

For me, the reasons I write are four-fold:

1. The process of writing and creating a story or a scene is as much, or more, fun and exciting than reading someone else's story (though it takes one hell of a lot longer and is way harder). And I definitely like to peer inside others' minds through their words, too. That is a close second to striking the keys oneself.

2. As a means of sharing and building a relationship with someone. When you write about something that you have experienced with another person, and you both get to read about it and know that others are participating with you in the memories of that event, even if only in a vicarious fashion, helps to enrich your relationship with that person. Sharing it makes it more special.

3. For the satisfaction of knowing that someone else out there thinks like you do, enjoys what you have created, and has gotten some measure of pleasure from it (this is where feedback and votes make this tangible for the author).

4. Because it definitely beats cleaning the garage, fixing a leaky faucet, or doing the dishes. Having an inspirational moment that demands that you write it down RIGHT NOW is always a good excuse to avoid real work.

Singularity

I have always enjoyed writing, but I never had an outlet before I found Lit. I like the challenge of weaving a tale that is believable and that others might enjoy. Writing also gives me a nice change from my real life profession, and serves as a great stress reducer.

I must take exception to one of your statements. My mind is not dirty. I wash it regularly by reading here at Lit.

why I write

I write because I can't get a story out of my head until I put it on paper. Then, putting it on paper makes me think the story through a little more thoroughly: if someone else is going to read it, I have to fill in the blanks a little more carefully. The putting it on paper (or on-line) makes it become more of a mental exercise. It was a lot more fun and easy when it was just a fantasy, but I must write it or I go crazy. My first story on Lit. has just been submitted: I am still a virgin, you know. I'll advertise it like crazy when it shows up!

I write because, as crazy as it may sound, I enjoy the labor of it. I love having an idea, sitting down, sifting through it, then witnessing the characters take life. It's the most fun of mental exercises, and in the end I have something to show for it: a story I can call my very own.

Why I write on this site...

Hi,
I started writing at Lit cos it provided an opportunity for lovely reviews and feedback. The community here is so helpful and encouraging and I've made some great friends. :) You get so many different suggestions on how to better your writing. I had never found a place like this until Lit.

I like the thought that I have potentially over 100,000 people who have read my story.
