I'm not even sure that this is the right forum, so I apologise if it is. I am an author on Lit, I have been for a fair few years now and I allow full feedback on my stories.

It is about this that I have a rant I wish to get off my chest!

Firstly, do not get me wrong, this is not because I got some feedback where someone picked a story of mine to pieces, to be honest I'd rather have had that then what I did get.

No, my rant is about the people who leave a message like "Bollocks" or "I don't like that type of story." when the genre is clear at the start. Let me give a brief example. My latest submission is a story I am writing for a fan. He sought me out with a story he'd like written as he liked my writing style.

I accepted, I enjoy writing and the genre was not my usual. He was very happy with the first chapter and allowed me to post it. The genre is 'non-consult/reluctance' so the reader should know generally what to expect. Also stated at the top of the story was the fact it was a request and my first attempt in this genre.

Allowing as always, comments and feedback, I was not expecting them all to be good. In fact I was hoping for some negative constructive criticism to allow me to make the story better for people who like this genre.

And this is where my rant stems. One comment I had back is 'Story request: Bollocks" and he gave me a 0 score. This guy or girl did not even have the guts to leave a name, just a zero score with nothing constructive at all.

I know not everyone will like my stories, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to get good scores for my stories. And when people knock the average down with a comment that is not only useless, but not even about the story itself it just REALLY bugs me.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this annoyance bother them or are they just bigger than me and let it slide? lol

Sorry for the long rant though, needed to get it off my chest. If anyone did get to the end of this, please use this forum to get similar problems off your chest or to add your own rant about author/posting problems.

If you did, thanks for reading, if not then I do not blame you! :)

You're not alone, and it can get worse. I have a story that not only received a few 0s, but some came with rather angry insults. I felt sorry for the readers as they seemed to have identified with the wrong character in the story. Maybe it was too close to home for them. The same could be the case with yours. And remember, if no one absolutely hates your story, it may be too bland...lol

Said individuals who hit and run are generally referred to here as 'trolls'. In your case however, 'ungratetful twit' may be more apropros. :D

Don't concern yourself about it. ;)

LOL Thanks Tio, maybe it was too bland.

I have had angry insults too on other stories, ones telling me I was sick for writing about incest, even though it was clearly in the incest section. I don't like 'celebrity' stories, so I just do not read them. Is it so hard for these people to do the same??

But thank you both. I know I should not let these 'Trolls' get to me, but it is hard sometimes!

Sure, I think everyone who posts a story here has that happen.

I had a story in Lesbian and got a comment on it complaining that it was too lesbian... :D:D:D

It happens, Whinston...

Do I even need to say what category that story was posted in?

I'm a relative newbie, right ?.
I'm working on a couple of stories and getting good advice so I hope I am making progress towards being 'competent' at least.

So, forgive me if this sounds daft, but :-
One thing I have noticed is that the type of story does not always fit the genre to my mind, so the expectations of an innocent reader might be different to the intentions of a good author.

Yes, OK, I'm talking stupid, but it was my thought.

Not a stupid question in the slightest.

For instance, my current entry in the Nude Day contest could have fit into two, possibly three cats. Given my abysmal score, I must have placed it in the wrong one. :( Reenforcing that speculation is the instance where I submitted a story under one cat and management changed it to another cat. The story did quite well, so I assume I was in error. ;)

And you are quite right. I can think of a dozen ways to approach any of the available categories... lots of them ways that I would not want to read!
