5 vs 5, I think. I saw last week's game, missed this morning. ( had an early morning meeting that went ALL morning)

That's too many kids on the pitch for their age if its recreational. Keepers? (goalies) I'm just trying to get a feel for what y'all play. Our 3,4,5 year olds play four v four, small sided games, no keepers. My boy plays in a Super Developmental League and plays 9 v 9 on a full size field and all rules apply. He's not much older than yours if I remember what you told me.

They're doin' 2 goalies, I believe...and it's a small field. Most of the kids have never played. I think he likes it, though.

Yeah, it's 5 vs 5, and the field is pretty small. Of course, most of today's game was played only on half the field... Our team has a total of 10 players, and everyone gets a turn... We only ran the ball towards our goal a handful of times, and scored twice. (I quit counting how many goals the other team scored...) :(

Our team consistently has 2 'keepers', but the other team was running all 5 players for the whole game. They didn't even take 'keeper' positions when we ran the ball to their side of the field. We have a new-to-soccer, new-to-coaching coach, so it's been interesting, but she's making a decent effort. He def. enjoys it though, and he was enjoying scoring goals on me tonight in the yard! I started out working with him on paying attention to where he wants the ball to go, instead of just kicking randomly. Maybe it's too early for that, but nothing else comes to my mind.

Chinese steam buns.
Sounds awful!
Corbibrat of course!
Fist bump* Where ya been?

Okay, it's herd ball at this age. No rhyme or reason and no sense of direction. The fact that they're playing keepers in. A four foot goal is nonsense. But to each their own. Best thing to teach him at this age is stay out of the pack. The ball will pop out of that herd. When it does, he'll get it everytime and push the ball forward. And the last thing is, 'step in.' Notice he'll run next to kid with the ball but never actually do anything. They don't get the concept of putting your foot in. If he does that he can stop their advance almost every time. I have a 'D' license in coaching and have coached little boys for about 5 years. The concept for the game won't truly show until their about 8. For girls, it's a little sooner.
