In my review of the new poems of last Sunday I wrote:

I often feel guilty when I find no works by new poets that I consider worthy of mentioning. Believe it or not, the regular contributors to this site are not shown favoritism by me (nor by other reviewers I am sure). In reality I hold them to a higher standard than the new or infrequent posters.
Since then I have received a number of messages, exchanged several PMs, and noticed a few postings in various threads that all appear to touch on the same subject. That being that this forum is seen by some as being monopolized by a few who discourage newcomers from participating by practicing favoritism among themselves, promising assistance and then not delivering, and generally denigrating the efforts of new posters and making them feel unwelcome and outsiders.

I personally haven't felt these allegations to be true, but apparently some do. Consequently I am starting this thread to explore the topic.
Is this forum a "closed" club, or does it welcome everyone and encourage new poets?

I have my own thoughts on this and will share them later, but for now I would like to hear what everyone else thinks. - Feel free to hijack this thread as long you stay generally relevant to what you think about poetry on Literotica. :)

I'm not around much lately, but usually new poets are treated fairly and welcomed to the board. I know that occasionally a new poet will post one or more threads asking for feedback or start a thread to display what they've written, and then no one on the board responds. I'm sure that feels very unwelcoming to someone new. Usually, at least, one of us makes a comment, but sometimes it's difficult to find anything constructive to say, or we've seen that same type of poetry so many times over that we're sick of repeating ourselves.

As far as it being a closed club, I think it's only natural that when we spend time together that we tend to get a bit cliquish, but generally, most of the regulars are quite approachable.

Yes, at times, the board is monopolized by a poster or two, but that's not their fault. We're all free to start our own threads and post as much as we want.

(Stop monopolizing the board, fish) :p

All I can say is that as a recent newcomer, if you barge in with a smile and just start participating shamelessley, everyone is pretty welcoming. The is a core group here, (Lauren, you, DM, Angeline, a few more)

As for the quality of the poems. This is a site mainly for erotic short stories written by amateurs, and there is no extensive quality check of the incoming material, except to see that it is correct. Ilook at the story section and find that most of them are pretty lousy written too. I'd say one out of five is readable, and one out of fifteen or twenty is really good.

The poems actually have a better ratio imo. But hey, this is a site for amateurs, hobby writers and poets. And the tops are high, I'll tell you. Personally I'll keep scanning the new poens, if only to have my next hale-induced mental orgasm.

There is one novel that is being posted currently that I think quite good. - In fact the mandatory sex scenes are a distraction. I am referring to "Death by Fucking" by thebullet. (I link to the author so that you can start at the beginning if you have not yet read this work.)

I've been posting stuff for six or eight months. I have never felt shunned, ignored, left out or other nasty stuff. I have been castigated but that is okay. I have been corrected and that is even better. One day I hope to be spanked, that would be best of all....:D

The regular posters on the new poems thread all have their view of what is good and what is not, however I have never seen someone impose their own requirements on what makes a good poem on others. There also is no rule that others can't post their comments as well.

Rybka, you had made the comment that you hold regulars to a higher standard than those that post for the first time or less often. I think that is because you know what they are capable of and anything less is disappointing. If you say, "Fool, that new poem you wrote sucks compared to the one you did last week." I can accept that. In a way it's kind of like a coach or personal trainer saying, "Get off your ass and give me 100%." Oh well, my thoughts.

Oh yeah, one more thought. If someone doesn't like the way that thread is set up, create your own thread. Don't just bitch about it. Lead by example.

Fool - talking way too much.

well i think i agree with mr Fool. Hell, be fearless, write, post, jest, do your best, quest,

just
dont
be
mean.

thats another ballowax.

and i find this board to be refreshingly kind and eventempered.

eagleyez, was that you in aisle 4 of Annie Hall AVs R Us earlier today?

I think we all drop in and out from time to time. I'd have to agree with Wicked, sometimes it's hard to be constructive on every single new poet. I know when I first came here, Lit was an addiction....and still is. I felt very welcome.

I'd like to think we're pretty much a friendly bunch. Sometimes the poetry board just doesn't get as much action as other boards. I think we should mandate a naked posting rule...what'dya think?!?

in the buff & lovin' it

I'm sure if you start a thread asking for spankings, many here would be happy to oblige. :) Maybe some spanking poetry?

See? You start a thread, who knows what people will write....

And Rybka, it occurs to me that most of the "regulars" here are pretty new to the board, so everyone is new here at some point. Fool's advice is, as usual, sound.

Why do I hear the sound of a rubber glove snapping when I read that?

Not ready for the roto rooter.

Gawds, no, I'm forced to post from the computer lab at school - and seeing how little attention these ladies pay me with my clothes on, I'm afraid of what damage might ensue from the stampede to escape my presence otherwise...

As for the "club v welcoming" arguement, I probably don't say enough, good or bad, so I'm not sure how I fit in. My perception of what I read, it goes through phases. Some folks prefer to critique the author over the content, or sometimes newbies want feedback on six poems at once instead of six poems one at a time, but all in all I've always thought the place was worth returning to...hence,
