don't you end up with a lot of ice-crystals throughout the end product, though? that's normally why the makers are stirring it as it freezes and home-mades are generally stirred at least once during the freezing process. if you like the ice crystals then it's not gonna be an issueThat's fine. Add some whipping cream or even half and half to the blender.
You could probably even do your shaker thing if you chopped the ice first. Make a slurry of the ice and flavorings, then add the milk/cream mix in the shaker. The ice mix makes it freeze faster is all.
