This clearly shows that the American public does not respect either of them and for Congress to retain them as leaders shows that Congress does not respect the American public.

A lot of 'compromise' used to be in 'pork', little giveaways to buy and trade support between different parties. A lot of that 'porkbarrel spending' was fairly recently legislated away, or party members signed pacts to promise not to budge.

They do, it's called the House of Representatives, thus the nickname "the peoples house". The US Senate represents the states, combined they are the legislature...both the people (house) and the states (senate) must agree to create federal law and need a super majority of both to do any major shit or cram it past POTUS.

And it should be hard...could you imagine if laws for all 50 states were always changing all willy nilly anytime someone got a 50%+1 majority? Not really a recipe for stability.
