I don't see what's so bad about this pic, really. Brings to mind that news report of those Alabamians (Or somewhere in the south) who were out grilling. A neighbor wanted to see what so many people could be standing around a grill for and checked it out. Sure enough, it was a live, stray cat getting flambayed to death. She asked them to stop, but they just looked at her as if confused.

She was able to rescue it, but it suffered severe injuries. It may have died - I never heard a follow up story.

So, in that light, the pic almost looks humane. Not that I support such twisted ideas, but it could be a lot worse.
