So this Sheriff is doing an election fraud investigation. He has nothing more than an unfounded suspicion that the election was fraudulent. He's not doing a cursory look to see if there might be fraud, but a full-fledged in depth criminal investigation, even though both the Democratic AND Republican parties have told him the election was fine. Okay, I guess if he wants to waste his time, go for it.

But that's not the scary part. This is:
This Sheriff is speaking at a panel in Las Vegas and one of the members of that panel belongs to, well just read the following:

"Participants include Richard Mack, founder and president of the far-right Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association, and county sheriffs from Texas, Michigan and Wisconsin. Mack is a former board member of the Oath Keepers, an extremist organization that recruits its members from among law enforcement. He says he is no longer part of the group, many of whose members are accused of playing a key role in the Capitol riot, with nearly a dozen charged with seditious conspiracy.

The so-called constitutional sheriff's movement claims that county sheriffs are the supreme law of the land and their authority supersedes that of all others as long as they are protecting American citizens from enemies, foreign or domestic. That means they believe they don’t have to enforce laws or orders they deem unconstitutional."

You thought January 6th was about subverting our constitution? This is even worse. This organization says a sheriff is the ultimate law enforcement agency and can enforce or ignore laws at will. According to their philosophy, since they can ignore dually passed laws (the job of our elected representatives in the legislatures) and interpret them however they please (the job of the courts) there isn't three branches of government but only one and they are it.

If they are allowed to do this, it is the real subversion of our constitution.

May be time to abolish the office of elected sheriff and go to a county police agency with the head employed by county elected officials.

Would have to be done at each state level, some by ammending their constitutions.

If you see a sheriff walking around in a South American dictator-style military uniform or wearing a hat like Richard Petty, it's usually a bad sign.

We had a guy a few decades ago who was obsessed with shutting down adult bookstores, like this was Cincinnati or something. People got tired of him and now I have no idea what our sheriff even looks like, which is as it should be.
