I eat out a lot and in very nice restaurants, especially when I travel. It is not uncommon for waiters to assume they are getting 20% no matter what, and then to treat me with neglect if not down right contempt. Once I was the last person seated for dinner service and the waiter was horrible to me because he thought he'd be leaving early that night. My tip on the $80 bill? $0.01, and I wrote him a little note that in the future he should treat his customers with respect. He threw a shit fit for having to stay an hour late for essentially no pay. Hope he learned his lesson. Shitty service = shitty tip.
