Man arrested after posting Facebook photo of baby & gun

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Police have arrested a Colerain man after he posted a photo of himself on Facebook holding his 1-year-old daughter and a BB gun.

Domonic Gaines, 22, was arrested after the incident which occurred at his home on Suliner Drive Sunday.

According to reports, police initially believed that Gaines was holding a handgun in the photo. However, police say the gun in question turned out to be a BB gun.

The photo depicted Gaines holding his daughter, Paradise Gaines, along with the BB gun. Police say that the close proximity of the gun to the child created a substantial risk of physical harm.

Police say they found the BB gun at the residence after the arrest was made.

"It's really been blown out of proportion," said Gaines' father, Wilson Dykes.

Dykes claims that it was the baby's maternal grandmother who saw the photo and called the police.

Gaines was arraigned on Monday morning on Child Endangerment charges. He's being held without bond in the Hamilton County Jail.

It's so enormously ironic that I happened to come across this report now, because earlier today I was thinking how so many on this site would flip their socialist lids if they viewed the cell phone video I was shown this afternoon...

...an acquaintance took his family - wife, a 10-year old daughter, 8 and 5-year old sons - to a working/hunting ranch his company leases Friday night, and they stayed through Sunday afternoon. A portion of the video aired his daughter comfortably and maturely carrying the large heart of a deer that had been slain for dinner, after it had been gutted. But it was the part of the video featuring his 5-year old son that the dad was so proud to show me.

I've been around weapons of many various types my entire life, and I've witnessed age groups from Cub Scouts to senior citizens enjoy learning and practicing their weaponry skills...

...but I've never seen a 5-year old so intently focused on receiving and employing the instruction being given him by an adult whose arms were holding the kid's arms steady as the kid emptied about half of a 30-round mag of an AR15.

Any alarm naturally arising within me seeing such a young person handling such a weapon was immediately quashed by the total seriousness and comfort the kid displayed firing the weapon - there wasn't an ounce of intimidation, nor a second of video game awe - I was truly impressed.

And then I immediately thought how many insecurely frightened people here would go totally, socialist apesh!t if they saw what I saw. I only smiled wider when the kid then got to handle a 12 ga. and treated it with the very same sincere respect.

I, like his pop, was proud of him, too, and an hour or so after his pop showed me the video, the kid himself came by; I greeted him with, Hey, Rambo...

...I reckon the nick may stick for a while.

Back there in "civilized" Ohio, a dad gets busted for "Child Endangerment" for just holding a BB gun and his daughter in the same photo...

...while down here on the border on the northside of the Mexican desert and the southside of the Rockies, a 5-year old native has learned well the individual responsibility naturally required to step-up to the big boy plate.

I apologize for my story in advance for offending all you socialists, mommys...

...and, of course, Lance.

It only disturbs me that a child wouldn't naturally love animals and want to protect them. I was born with the animal gene myself. My folks have pictures of me as a todler and whenever I'm around animals I'm smiling from ear to ear and look so happy. People seem to be born with the animal gene or not.

Guns are just inanimate objects like knives or hair dryers, completely stupid to have any feelings about them emotionally one way or another. I've seen tv shows where hair dryers are used as murder weapons. Are people scared of hair dryers?

Times have changed.

Had a BB gun by age 7..
Fired my Dad's .22 (under his supervision) at age 8..
Was hunting rabbits and small game by 9..
Graduated to a .410 shotgun by 10..
Earned my marksmanship merit badge by 11..
Upgraded to a 20 gauge by 13..
Was firing large rifle by 16..

All of this was taught to my by my Dad, who was not a "gun nut" by any stretch of the means. What he did teach me was that guns were fun and useful tools. As long as you treated them with respect and handled them safely they are no more dangerous than any other tool or shop equipment.

I guess this is why I don't understand this inordinate fear of guns.

It can't walk out of the safe or off the wall rack.
It can't load itself
It can't fire itself
Without a person to wield it it can't do anything.

It's an inanimate piece of wood or plastic and steel.

"I realized some time ago that I'm not separate from nature just because I have a primate brain - an upper brain - because underneath the primate brain, there's a mammalian brain, and beneath the mammalian brain, there's a reptilian brain; and it's those two lower brains that made the upper brain possible in the first place. Here's the way it works: The primate brain says, 'Give peace a chance.' The mammalian brain says, 'Give peace a chance, but first let's kill this motherfucker.' And the reptilian brain says, 'Let's just kill the motherfucker, go to the peace rally and get laid.'"

Your reach is worthless...

...your grasp does not exist.

And since your reach doesn't allow you to box with God, much less your betters on this site...

...be thankful you can at least grasp that vestigial substitute for manhood between your legs.

You were so impressed with the seriousness and respect for proper weapon-handling that the father instilled in the young boy that you decided to undo it all by calling the kid Rambo.

What a good friend that guy has in you.

So is a car. But, when you get behind the wheel of one, you somehow -- have you never noticed? -- become part of a symbiotic/composite organism of car-and-driver, with its own psychological characteristics, rather different from your psychological characteristics as a pedestrian. Most of the time, car-and-driver wants to Go Faster and to Get There First, quite irrespective of whether you actually need to reach your destination by any time certain. That's one main reason why automobile accidents happen (the other being drunk driving).

Likewise, the gun-armed you is a composite organism somewhat different from the unarmed you. The gun-part of you wants to be fired. The awareness that you have a gun, and that firing it in anger is an actual possibility, is always lurking somewhere in every gun-holder's mind, just waiting for a suitable opportunity to manifest in the material world. It certainly lurked in Adam Lanza's.

In short, guns do kill people, in the nontrivial sense that cars cause accidents.

That is one seriously stupid post. It's like you fell out of the bullshit tree and hit every branch on the way down and once you hit the ground the bullshit tree service truck came in, ran over you and then began turning the tree into bullshit mulch that covered your broken and bleeding body.
Holy fuck you know shit about guns and apparently not much about cars.

At lunch time you can see them parked outside of diners next to the ugly-tree service trucks. It's a friendly rivalry.
You'd think they'd want to let those trees die. I bet it's a union thing. Fucking unions.

Politicians get in power and remain there by telling you who to hate and what to fear. And they usually pick a minority, a weak target.

We kill tens of thousands of people a year on the highways with cars. But just about everyone has a car, so you can't demonize cars, too many people to defend them.

Not so many people with guns.

I'd argue that McDonald's franchises are more dangerous to the health and lives of Americans than guns are. Mostly just to piss off the anti-gun crowd. But I think you could probably make the case. But too many people LIKE eating their junk food, you won't get the votes that way.

Got to go after small groups to get good scape-goats. Then take rare incidents and blow them out of proportion. Way, WAY out of proportion.

If they really wanted to save lives, they should go after the cars.

Ya know that whole car-gun thing? Yeah, it's really fucking stupid. Stop doing that.

You just made that up. There is no way to document such a thing. Your statement is idiotic.

So all the gun-armed police officers WANT to fire their guns in anger? All the gun-armed Bailiffs in all the courtrooms? All the gun-armed Secret Service agents around the President?

Composite organism. Great concept. No proof of it existing.

Now, a SIMPLE organism you can prove. You just have to look in a mirror.

Also, I notice Eyer seems to have discovered adverbs. He's not quite there with them yet, but more power to him for trying.

I used to sharpen my pencil with a 22 pistol. In those days we carried guns in school and nobody thought a thing about it.

What does hunting have to do with not respecting animals?

Colerain, Ohio is a very conservative, pro-gun area with a conservative county Sheriff and conservative district attorney. Something tells me that the reporter doesn't know all the facts. One fact is already wrong, Gaines isn't held without bond because he posted the $2k bond yesterday. Details of the arrest and charges aren't available because the files are locked, I assume because there's a minor involved.

That area of town also has a long history of racial tension including racial tension with police so that could also be a factor.

"betters"?

Whom do you fantasize that would be...

...I mean, besides yourself obviously?

Everyone who can type without constantly using elipses.

That would be everyone but you and garbage can. Seems about right to me.

... ...... ..... ..... .... I just typed, you're a dipshit, in morse code.

No you didn't dumbass, it's obvious you have no idea what Morse code is or how to use it.
