This is a very simple question.

Was it okay for miles to post someone's personal information without their permission

...it appears this is strongly imprinted on your mind... did I accuse you?

I see myself clearly and I am not cybering with women or children as a twenty something anorexic guy from California who has a daddy who chains him up and he has grown to like it, falalalalalalalala.

In otherwords, Dribble, fuck off.

No. I voted no. I don't think it's ok for ANYONE to post someone's personal information without that person's permission.

These days, I rarely click a link because someone told me you can track where that person is from when they click it.

Actually, someone PM'd and told me they knew my town because of the link I clicked. Again, that's personal information which is being found out underhandedly (is that a word???? :D )

I'm not sure that's possible without some sort of spyware, but I'm no techie.
It's actually possible to determine anyone's location just by their posting on Lit.

Clicking links...? That depends. Every site you contact with your browser has your IP address, as the first thing your browser submits to it — that's the only way the site you're requesting information from knows how to send it to you. There's other information included, such as what browser you're using and it's version number, but there is nothing that would identify you personally. So, for someone to say they know where you are because you clicked a link is quite a stretch. They would have to (1) own the domain or have the sort of access to the server's logs that would result from owning the domain, and (2) know the exact time at which you clicked that link.

But were that to happen, or were someone like me with more skill and subtler methods to obtain your IP address, it's not as scary as it sounds. There isn't much one can do with it, other than find out your probable approximate location. One cannot "hack" into your system that way.

The way your system will be invaded by trojans, keyloggers, viruses, and other malware, will be through your browser, when you visit hostile sites.

If you're interested in knowing what your IP address is and what sort of information someone who has it can obtain, go here:

http://whatismyipaddress.com/

It should show your Internet Service Provider as well as your general location. (Sometimes these things can be wildly wrong...)

I'd like to vote again.

I want to second my original vote.

Democrats do it all the time.

But this is an important issue. At least right now.

Posting Personal Information is Lit:

Incognito did it before becoming a new name.
LovingTongue did it to Ishmael and brags about it being 'duty'.
Miles did it to Rob.
Killswitch did it to Blacksnake
Rob uses personal information to attack AJ.
Karen did it to Kippies.
Funkenstein did it to Killswitch.
Nipples did it to Powersemen.
Powersemen threatened to do it to Luke.
Sonny did it to Ken/karen.
Hanns did it to anyone he could find.
We had the BoobsNBrains/Taltos scandal.

and these are just the examples I can remember without research.

Each time people jumped on a bandwagon according to their "lit associations" and piled it on.

My feeling is that the only time you may post personal information is when specifically directed to do so by the person whose information you are revealing, and even then it should be done with the knowledge that you are permanently putting their information in the hands of people whose actions put them among the worst of humanity.

FTR: I never posted any personal info on anyone or Blacksnake. I reported him to a poetry website he was hacking server space from to host hundreds of porn pics because he dared me.

Then he claimed to be fired but the truth of it is....he owned the website and used the occurrence to garner sympathy from all of you.

And you all bought it like a meal at Dennys.

Fuck you and your revisionist history, Betty1.

I was wondring who bumped this and why...

Pookie or someone quoted Lady Fairfax in Miles thread and I quoted that and it was this thread.

IDK what the fuck happened.

I didn't realize I was bumping or they were quoting a thread or post from last century.

Do you people keep spreadsheets and have your walls covered with links and post it notes with quotes?

FFS

I cant recall what I did yesterday and you tools are quoting shit from years ago like it was yesterday.

Thats dedication man.

I wouldn't want to remember your past either, Betty1.
