Not much surprises me here at this point but this comment made me blink

We're on lit, a porn site and they're asking if I write non smut material and excited to see it if I do.

I think its flattering, it just seems so odd here where most people are just yelling "More fucking!"

I think this person took the wrong bus and got off (haha) in the wrong place.

It's not surprising to me at all.

I've had commenters flat out say I could even completely leave out sexual content from my fantasy series, and they would still gladly read it. I guess some readers just like your writing and the stories you tell.
And there's so much smut here that it's not hard to believe that readers might become saturated with it and just want an interesting story rather than smut.

True. Funny because the story they left this on has not gone over well so maybe they're trying to tell me something....heh.

I'll take it as a sign that there's people here interested in more than just the strokers.
Definitely - I'm one of those readers. I found a story here after following a link on Bluesky, and stayed for the romance and moving coming-out/queer awakening stories. I'm not saying I'm not turned on by a well-written sex scene (though there's a lot of things that will turn me off) but it's not why I keep, ahem, coming here.

Perhaps what they are saying @lovecraft68 is that if you ever wrote in the non-erotic category (and published it on smashwords) they'd be interested.

I think the right way to take this is that it's flattering and complimentary.

But of course my mind goes dark and twisted and starts thinking of "SFW" story titles like "Mom and Son at the Church Social."

“I’m just taking a long lunch break. There’s an amazingly wholesome story I just can’t put down.”

“So we don’t need to order more tissues for the tea room this time?”

Also not surprised.

I have had several readers applaud the erotically teasing-only aspects of some of my stories, allowing them to experience the stories more freely, in places where they wouldn't be embarrassed if someone was reading over their shoulder.

I volunteer as a child advocate in family court and some of my fellow volunteers have discovered my work on Amazon and other sites, and have actually brought some of my paperbacks into court to read while waiting for their case to be called. Someone will see my name on the cover and ask about the book. The reader smiled and said, "It's great. He writes smut!"

Being my wife once worked in a similar role, being found out to write smut, especially some of the content you've posted here would not be met with smiles and 'that's great' it would be seen as do we want this person around children? That's Unfair, what we write is not what we do, but that's how it is. My work is no threat to me, but when my wife was working with teens, we worked hard to keep it under wraps. I didn't start doing cons even for my EH work until she'd moved on to a new career.

What I'm saying is cool story, bro.

My stories here are different than what is available for purchase, for obvious reasons.

"Smut" is the context of my Amazon and other stories is strictly implied erotic events or actions and nothing graphic. It appears to be enough to warrant the designation from some, without any negative connotations being applied.

I'd take it as a nice compliment but a completely impractical request. I have written some SFW stuff, but I'd want to keep it separate from this with a 10-foot pole, because I want to be able to share my SFW stuff with people I know in real life and I want to keep most of them away from this with a 10-foot pole. I can't imagine going through the trouble of writing SFW stuff just for this crowd or trying to find a way to link the two identities with enough plausible deniability.
Imagine a job where reading any fiction on the clock is "safe."
I've had two. Both of them involved using the public Internet a fair amount, so it would be completely impractical for the internal network to block not-work-related sites entirely. And both of them had a fair amount of unpredictable downtime, so anyone might have a few minutes where it's reasonable to not have their nose to the grindstone.

Sitting and reading a novel for hours, yeah, that would get anyone in trouble, even at these jobs. But having a tab open in between meetings with fanfiction.net or TV Tropes or an article about my favorite sports team wouldn't be amiss. Literotica, though, would be trouble.

I write my stories while on the clock at work.

I'm the only one at work who knows how to check the security cameras and internet logs. Basically, I can do whatever the fuck I want and never get into trouble. It's a great job.

I don't doubt it!

So basically, depending on the job, either anything at all is SFW or everything that's even a little sketchy is NSFW. Not much in between
