I know I've shared with you all that I'm a homebirth midwife by trade. I do all sorts of mom/baby work and I mostly really love it! There is great joy in watching a woman become a mother.

However, this past month has been crazy. The practice that I work with overbooked for the holiday season and as a result I spent several days not sleeping. Not really eating for that matter. And away from my kids. As a homebirth midwife, we go out to the house as soon as labor is established and we stay until the baby is several hours old. You can imagine how long that can be sometimes.

I also write a monthly parenting column for a local magazine. Last Thursday, my editor called to ask me if I would mind taking my kids to a super swanky hotel that has an indoor waterpark and writing a review of it as a family destination. Free hotel suite for two nights. Free meals. Big comfy beds, cable TV, etc. She said that management at the hotel had assured her that as a travel writer I would be well taken care of. That was an understatement.

The kids and I had a blast. The water park was excellent and the service was outstanding. We were treated like superstars everywhere we went in the hotel. It was so much fun.

So now I'm thinking I should reconsider my career! Has anyone here ever done any travel writing? Is it always as good as I had it this weekend? I'm still blissed out by my mini-vacation. Hell, the hours are better than midwifery and I got to have my kids with me!

They knew you were a travel writer, and treated you incredibly well . . . no suspicious activity there! :D

But if you like it, I hope you get it!
